Default Tau and Close Combat

Was just wondering what i should do about hand to hand in my Tau army , i would like to have something ( besides kroot , they blow )

I belive he means officially...

The

only options are Human Auxilliaries, or Kroot. The former are actually official, and

rules are found on the GW website here

they're

a little better in CC than ordinary Fire Warriors, and while they get less attacks than

kroot and are slower, have higher saves, acess to greandes, markerlights, etc... making

them a better squad for a broad role: kroot are onyl really useful in CC and only if

theres only a few enemies...

my advice use carbines 2 attempt 2 pin this works well

unless ur against a high ld

if worst comes 2 worst use a fw squad as a speed

bump they can hold up a smurf assault squads up for a few vital turns (3-4) ive even won

a few due 2 sheer numbers

Kroot do have a role in a tau army, but they may not have

a role in your tau army. Kroot excel in cityfight and in wooded terrain.

Anywhere where there is cover in shooting and cover from assaults (but that can be

said about many troops of many armies). And as others have said, the best thing is

to avoid close combat with the tau proper, because, as we all know, they're really

really really bad at it.

So, I use kroot, and lots of them, because

they work best as a "horde" army. I find squads below 15 or 16 strength

don't have the survivability to get into and stay in close combat that often.

A squad of 20 with 8 kroot hounds can have a surprising effect on a game. But I

take the shaper upgrade, and will admit that it can be hit and miss with them.

I haven't painted up my human auxilliaries yet, but am planning on using them for

the same reasons that Del pointed out above.
