Default TAU Creations - weapons, units etc

I personally have a large interest in house rules as such i have started this topic. It would be interesting to see what kind of* creations people have come up with, or if they are only ideas feel free to post anyway. Here is the first unit i made, and a weapon to go with it: -

TAU HUNTER TEAM – by RJay

Hunter Teams were first introduced by vigilant commanders during the Damocles Crusade to help relinquish the continuing threat of the Imperials, in particular the Space Marine chapters of the Iron Fist and Ultramarines. These elite troops proved a valuable asset to the Tau hunter cadres and became the epitome of Kauyon tactics. Operating behind the main battlefield these units proved very useful, constantly depleting the front line due to their superb efficiency, helping to deter an onslaught.

Although Imperial recollections of the Damocles Crusade never told of these elite units simply because of their elusive nature; they were never seen nor heard. Their casualties were perceived to be of the so called battlefield masters, the Pathfinders.* Following the success of the Hunter Teams throughout the Damocles Crusade they were continually praised for there abilities. This allowed for the Hunters popularity to rapidly increase across Tau space. They were particularly sought after in the sept of Vior’la.

The Hunter Teams, aptly named for their ability to pick out enemy units like the hunter picking out the prey, became a necessity in any Tau army, especially within the western fringe of Tau space, allowing commanders more effective defences against some of the most feared races in the galaxy. They gave Tau armies the decisive edge against even the most armoured of enemy troops…the element of surprise.

ELITE

The following army list entry may be taken in Tau armies, including Farsight Enclave armies, occupying one Elite choice on the Force Organisation Chart.

HUNTER TEAM

Points WS BS S T W* * I A Ld Sv
Shas'la 18 2 3 3 3 1* * 2 1 7 4+
Shas'ui 18 2 3 3 3 1* * 2 2 8 4+

Team: Consists of 2-4 Hunters.

Equipment: Marker rifle with markerlight target designator.

Character: One

Shas'la may be upgraded to a Shas'ui team leader at an additional cost of +10 points. The Shas'ui may be given extra equipment from the Tau Armoury.

SPECIAL RULES
Bonded: A team may be bonded by the Ta'lissera at an additional cost of +10 points for the whole team.

Superior Vision: Tau warriors have far superior vision to that of any Imperial soldier. As such Tau Hunters can locate targets sooner than most armies, allowing them to fire twice each turn, on different units. This also includes the markerlight target designator, allowing the Hunter Teams to fire and mark out a separate target for more powerful units to attack during the same turn.

MARKER RIFLE

Weapon Range Str AP Type Notes
Marker rifle
48" 6 3 Heavy 1 Hits on 2+

Marker rifles bear the same technology as the markerlights, emitting a near undetectable laser to mark out the adversary like a beacon. This technology has been modified to create a high density beam capable of melting enemy armour and burning enemy troops, instead of merely marking them. It has been further adapted to improve the range of the weapon to make them suitable for their sole users, the Hunter Teams.

And here is how to make them (if your interested):-

MODELLING MARKER RIFLES

Components List:
Tau Fire Warrior plastic sprue
Tau XV8 ‘Crisis’ Battlesuit plastic sprue
Green stuff

Tools:
Knife
Polystyrene Cement

Description: Using a pulse rifle as a base cut off two barrels from a burst cannon and set them aside. Now remove the out stuck section from the top of the pulse rifle so a burst cannon barrel can be glued to the top, do not worry if it stick over the end of the rifle because you are about to extend the rifle. With the aid of green stuff add an extra section to the end of the rifle; this could have extra detail add such as grip at the lower end by creating vertical lines in the bottom half of the green stuff. Next you need to cut off a small section of barrel from the burst cannon, this should be inserted into the green stuff at the end but so part of it sticks out. Finally green stuff needs to be added to the scope to fix it onto the main weapon, do this by adding green stuff around the end and mid-section.

>MODELLING HUNTER TEAMS

Components List:
Tau Fire Warrior plastic sprue
40mm base
Green stuff

Tools:
Knife
File
Polystyrene Cement

Description: Use the torso, legs and head from a Fire Warrior, but do not glue the head on yet. Do not use the shoulder pads or helmet instead use a Tau head. If the warrior is kneeling then glue him to the bas, but if the model is standing then place him lying down on a 40mm base. Improve this by cutting of the feet and then move them angled back with the aid of green stuff. You will also need to add green stuff between the legs and torso so the model is leaning upwards. Then glue the marker rifle to the Fire Warrior arms and then glue these to the torso with the gun facing forward; either resting on the base or knee. Do not glue down until the gun is positioned adequately. Finally remove most of the armour from the model using the knife and file to obtain a smooth surface and then glue the model onto a 40mm base.

...that could all fit into one post y'know...

Had an idea for a Tau version of the Razorback, or, more accurately, a Falcon equivelant. Instead of an Ion Cannon/Railgun on its turret, it has Twin-Linked Railrifles or some other weapon in the turret. Not sure what to ahve up front: drones, bursts, or whatever, but its transport capacity of 6 and its heavier weaponry options could be handy for Pathfinders.

Pulse pistols are already in the

game(not by the real rules), the meson snipers use them. I made one by takeing a pulse

carbine and takeing of that bit that hangs of the barrel and grip.

" a bit much? 36" is okay, 48" is pushing it, but 60" seems way

overkill.

How about some sort of Tau dropship thats heavily armed and armoured (by Tau standards) that can drop from orbit with a fairly high points cost to reflect it's special nature.

i will probably get yelled at for this but how bout a Tau Assault unit, they could be very expensive and use only melee weapons and ride in crisis suits, just an idea.

Generally the idea is to create units suited to the tau which enhance their abilities. Not fill in gaps to try to make them into an indestructable force, as that disrupts the balance of 40k.
