Default The Other Tau Castes

Well I was reading the The Ethereal Effect thread and Calmsword asked the question about the other Tau castes (namely the Kor, Fio and Por). Just like how we are 'defining' the Aun would it not be prudent to 'define' the other castes and just how they fit into Tau society. To begin with how do the other castes 'advance' through Tau society and how do they fill their rolls in the empire?

Kor
I would imagine that the Kor would learn by flying ships e.g. Shuttles at Kor'la or as 'Operatives' on the command deck. at Kor'ui they become pilots and/or fly for the air force or go into the civilian mining/hauling/survey service. At Kor'vre they are now well known for what they do. Veteran pilots. Kor'el is a standard ship commander Kor'O is the 'Admiral' of the fleet.

Fio
Fio would probably advance along the lines of apprentice engineer at Fio'la they would be the 'manual labour' for the Tau. Not physically but more as 'supervisors' for drones and/or industrial processes. At Fio'ui they begin specialising e.g. become scientists, mechanics, builders (with drone controllers). AT Fio'vre they are respected in their field of work. At Fio'el they are now in control of other Fio and can create their own research programs, commission buildings open factories. When they reach Fio'O they are no longer building/researching/testing. They are the masters who compile knowledge and design buildings/infrastructure which other Fio build.

Por
As for the Por I'm not as sure on how their 'rank' would change. Perhaps at Por'la they are only 'runner boys' carrying messages and manning retail businesses. At Por'ui they now specialise becoming businessmen, apprentice diplomats and/or traders. Again at Por'vre they are respected in their field of work. Only at Por'el do the Por become actual diplomats and the heads of trade rings. A Por'O is a commander of a massive corporation e.g. A Tau Bill Gates or Richard Branson. Or they would be the equivalent of a planetary governor (However I expect the Tau would have a council with Aun advisors on the side).

Yes/no? Do you agree with me or do you have your own ideas?

Well- in the case of the Water caste they probably have a variety of fields they can go into- Science, Exploration, Diplomacy, Administration of Interior/Xenos, Por'hui news network. That being said, during the Saal years they might be screened for these specialties and then diverted to a proper school at the rank of La.
I would think they are the most student oriented out of all the castes with no doubt a direct hand in the governing of colonies.

Wouldn't Science-based careers be more the domain of the Fio?

The caste advancement system seems pretty much entirely merit based. Most likely, someone who shows a bit of leadership, or enough experience to handle/teach the rookies will go up a rank or two or be reassigned to something a little more challenging/exotic/whatever.

A fio'la might find himself bumped up to 'ui when his old 'ui gets her hands on some new project where her current knowledge/specialisation/experience would serve better (plus it tends to be more interesting anyways; so its not exactly bad for her). He's been around long enough to know the ins and outs of the job, and can handle showing one or two new guys the ropes.

Kinda like in industry today, if you managed to remove all the brown-nosing, cronyism and half-brained managers.

Does this happen with the Shas? I used them as a base. I only thought that at Ui 'rank' they began to specialise in their field of work.

Yes I forgot the news and telecommunications for the Por. Do the Por have scientists or are they 'statisticians','socio-economic annalists','Psychologists' and/or 'system annalists'
those are slightly diffrent to scientists.

Note: I've spelt annalists wrong. I think.

That being said, here's what i've come up with

'Trial by Paths'- The Por caste.

'Trial of Truths'- Earth Caste.

'Trial of Winds'- Air Caste

Sound right?
