Default Tau Anime inspirations

Hello, my new Tau friends.

I'm about to be receiving a rather large shipment of Tau models from a fellow TO member. I've been in the hobby for a long time but Tau are quite 'alien' to me. I know little to nothing about their fluff and have never played against them.

Anyway, I'm really into the modelling and painting side of the hobby and I'll need a good bit of inspiration for this rather large endeavour. Obviously, the Tau have some resemblance to some anime. I'm not really a big anime fan but I want something to help jumpstart my modelling and paintscheme. So, could I have some recommendations of anime movies/shows that could give me some inspiration for my new army?

I should mention I have netflix, so getting movies that are somewhat hard to find shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks in advance.

Appleseed would probably be your best bet. It seems to be the general consensus that the Battlesuits are loosely based off of the "Landmate" suits in that movie.

That or Macross, although the Macross is a wee bit (a lot) bigger than any Tau Battlesuits.

I wouldn't go with Gundam though. Too... something.... I don't like 'em anyway.

Appleseed and Patlabor designs are theone that influence the Tau battlesuits in my opinion.

Appleseed, Macross... Yeah.

If you're looking for a 'grim' Tau force look at Akira, If you want to build an 'old' Tau force (like steam and such) Steamboy is the way to go. Robotech and Armored Core are also excellent choices

DO NOT LOOK AT GUNDAMS. They look cool, but at the end of the day a railgun shot will take it down.

Can't think of too much more...

I really agree with the patlabor and macross similarities. (my own Tau army is based on Max and Miriya and I call them the city defense force). Also I second the stay away from gundam part. Never could enjoy it myself. I do advise the DoW army painter as far as testing out paint scheme idea's goes.

Hmm odd i really thought I could possibly come up with more suggestions, silly me, but then again, macross has loads of paintschemes to work with^^

I will be the devil's advocate and say DO refer on gundams. Check the weapons in particular. The weapon design for gundams are really good.

As for the body designh, based it on Armoured core, Front mission, and gundam. These will give you a more grittier design for your battle suits. Oh yeah, add Zone of the enders into te equation as well.

That's indeed where personal tastes come in^^

And speaking of ZoE , it made me think of virtual on, more japanese big robots(sometimes with sega saturns on their backs^^)

Well, the back packs fi\or the ZOE mech are better and more stylish, but yet more reliable than the fancy gundam ones.

And you have to admit the tron-like energy lines are awesome.

Go for Appleseed, but make sure you get the new one, and not the old one, or you'll be in for an '80's style suprise! ;D
Of course, just browsing through the Tau forums gives me enough inspiration.
Oh yeah, get Akira if your in the mood for really cool turbo charged crotchrockets.

Gunbuster!!!! That is a somewhat obscure anime series which has mech suits very similar to our own.

But yeah, patlabor and appleseed are good too.

STAY AWAY FROM THE EVIL GUNDAM!!!!
