Default Skyrays and Mech Tau

I have been staring at the Skyray model online for a while now, and I not only like the model, but also like the ability to tote 2 mobile markerlights. Now my onLy dilema is I play a heavily mechanized tau force, or I have recently changed from Hybrid to Mech, and don't see myself going back.

I don't take broadsides in my lists with mech tau anymore, because they seem too vulnerable alone. Now this means all my railguns are needed in my hammerheads. So if I used all three HS choices I am looking at taking 3 HH with railguns to make up for the loss of the broadsides..

Now I was recently thinking of taking a skyray over one of those hammerheads, and just dumping a few seekers on my piranhas that I already field, to make up for the loss of the Hammerhead railgun. I have not been able to test this, so I am not too sure how well this would work out, or if it would be particularly that smart. If that Skyray bites it I just lost the source of fire for the seekers and those extra seekers just became wasted points.

Also would it be a good Idea to bring in pathfinders with the Skyray at higher point games?

I guess my real question is has anyone successfully used a skyray in a mech tau themed army, and if so what tactics were used?

I use a Skyray and Hammerhead as HS at 1500 points, and I find it works well enough. I find I do need to make up for the lack of railguns, usually with a few fusion blasters, to take out the heavy armour. For the lighter stuff, the seeker missiles come in really handy. In the same list I also field pathfinders, and I find the markerlight flexibility very useful. In one turn of shooting, you can use the skyray to get a light on a heavy tank to make sure your hammerhead hits, another light on a smaller tank to hit with a seeker, and the pathfinders can help take down a squad, or call in more seekers. Sure, when i face a lot of AV 14 vehicles, i find it a pain... but anything lighter, and they're toast from seekers. Not to mention that that same skyray can potientally give you FOF fire warriors BS5 when the really need it.

I dont have any skyrays but i do want to try one. The big problem with them though is that they have a limited amount of seeker missiles. So once you run out... Theres not much it will be able to shoot with besides its secondary weapon. Personally i would rather have 2 Hammerheads and a 3 man squad of Broadsides for my heavy support. However Skyrays arent to expensive so they mgiht be able to fill in a gap that you need which a HH cant fill in.

If you take a skyray you shouldjust be sure that you have enough markerlights to allow it to shoot all of its missiles before it dies.
