Default Question about the Railgun

A railgun has two ways it can fire. It can either use solid shot or submunition.

The solid shot is str 10 and the submunition is str 6. According to the rules main weapons are weapons that have str 7 or higher and defensive weapons have str 6 or lower.

So if I move my hammerhead will I then be able to fire Submunition but not a solid round?

You can still fire it, just no more than 6" if you don't have a multi tracker. If you move 12 inches you can fire your railgun. Either way, you can fire your railgun, and your burst cannons or sub munitions if you move 6 or less. If you have a multi tracker you can do the same, but up to 12 inches.

From a technical standpoint I suppose you could. However I really suggest giving your Hammerhead a multi tracker. That means it can shoot as though it were a fast vehicle or in other words move its full 12" and still fire one main and all defencive weapons which basically comes down to anything you give it can still fire. You really do want your hammerhead moving more than 6" per turn, the skimmer moving fast rule is just a great protection.

Just forget that there is an option not to take the multi-tracker. Think of it as factory-standard along with the targetting array. It it possible the best value for the points in the entire army list.

Agreed. Always take a Multi-tracker on a hammerhead (and I always do on my DFs, too, but some don't).

heliodorus04, I not only take the Multi-Tracker, but I also take the Targeting Array on my Devilfish. Sure it's extra points, but with the points you're paying for the damn fish you might as well get [glow=yellow,2,300]ALL[/glow] the points you can out of it.

Actually, on any HH/DF, standard for me is MT and DL. No reason not to take.
I don't always take TAs, but if I take a Warfish, I always take the TA.

You know, I think its kind of funny that the Multitracker is such a vital piece of kit that this question hasn't come up before

Sorry I should have said that as well. On all my vehicles, I take DL, MT, & TA.
