Default What color scheme do you use?

Ok... just to poke around, what color scheme do YOU use for your tau army?

Now, in the codex, it says that tau colors, appart from sept markings and such, are purely made for camo and such... so what've you chosen? (if any at all)

I myself originally wanted to make a stormtrooper army... white and black... but thought that that would clash with my choice of sept and commander name... (O'Hell & cadre from the Ictank Sept)

So its grey and black, with white odd colorings... and the sept markings are purple

Here's a pic of some of my wee army: LINK (and for the love of it, I tried to get a good one... but my cam is not alligned with greater good today)

So... what are your colors?

This has been done not so lang ago, but I'll humour you. I use Catachan Green Armour, Chaos Black Fatigues and Bleached Bone for the squad markings. I also use Blood Red for little flashing lights and stuff.

...codex gray tends to give me the feeling that the model isn't even painted.

I have a different color scheme for each squad of fire warriors and each individual XV8. However, I follow the same set of rules when painting everything, kinda like how in Dark Crusade you pick a color for "primary", a color for "secondary", two colors for "trim", and one color for "weapon. That's basically what I do.

I used to have a really awful and incredibly poorly thought out colour scheme (Gold 'n' Green :) but have safely re-adapted it.

Armour Plating: Midnight Blue
Armour Highlighting: Ice Blue
Fatigues: Dark Angels Green
Squad Markings: Undecided
Lights & 'Eye': Blazing Orange
Some other plates on the battlesuit armour: Various Bronzes/Tin Bitz

The contrast looks really nice, and suitably compensate for my general inability to paint well in that they look nice enough from a distance that no-one feels particularly overwhelming needs to pick them up and eyeball them up close.

The dull/shiny/dark metals of the Bronzes and Tin Bitz, funnily enough, don't actually look terrible on the models!

While I don't have a camera ready (sorry no pics) I can at least describe my scheme.

First I base in chaos black.

Then I pick out the armor plating and other important bits in Ice Blue.

Pick out a couple of odd plates, 2-3 max in skull white.

Lenses are painted in blood red.

Finally I take a couple of odd areas (sept symbol, circular bits, et al...) and paint them gold.

everything highlighted to a somewhat realistic standard and looks good.

Though my regular opponents are starting to call them tron instead of tau.... :

I also have a colour scheme based on jungle camo, but instead of using the easy and quick yet not so effective scheme that you use, I have a dark angels green base for my armour, with heavy highlights of camo green to help it stand out. then I use scorched brown for the cloth. this is quite an effective scheme as all the colours mix well and give the impression of a tree! ;D

Also, shouldn't this thread be in the painting or showcase section?

I use the normal Vomit Brown, Scorched Brown scheme. Not very original I know, but I think that it looks so darn cool! Especially when it's painted well. But on the cracks in the armor of XV's and vehicles, I have Vermin Brown.

I use Kommando Khaki for the fatigues over a Scorched Brown basecoat. For the armour I use Chaos black with space wolf grey highlights, with markings done in bleached bone highlighted with skull white.

The thing is, that topic stopped getting replies so long ago, it is now against the rules to post in it. And not only that, but since it was created back then, a lot of newer members did not have a chance to reply to it, and get their schemes viewed by others. It's a perfectly fine thing to do; creating a topic similar in meaning to another topic that is still active is against the rules, as it is just increasing your post count, and making more topics for mods to have to deal with, resurrecting a topic that is dead is not, as the topic hasn't been done for a great deal of time, and newer members will most likely want to reply to it (as they haven't had the chance to do it the first time).

My scheme has Graveyard Earth armour, Desert Yellow cloth, Skull White icons/lights, and a few dots of Blood Red on the gun's aiming slits. It's looks really cool if you have a desert/swamp board as your models blend in with the mud and sand. :P
