Default TO Update: some random things

Well, if we are going to send an update to GW, these are just some thoughts I had of random weapons that would be nice. Without further ado...

Ion Barrage Cannon
main weapon to hammerhead at +35 pts

range Str AP Type Notes
G60" 5 3 Heavy 2 blast

Markerlight: one use of a markerlight can halve the distance that the cannon scatters. Markerlights can only be used once in this way.

New Seeker Missile Types

Str AP Type Notes
Tracer 9 1 Heavy 1 blast
Submunition 6 5 Heavy 1 large blast
EMP - - Heavy 1 special
Barrage 5 5 Heavy 2 blast, pinning

Notes: All New Seeker Missile types use normal seeker missiles rules for launching, and all have an infinite range, and only specific vehicles may take certain ones.

A pathfinder's devilfish may choose all types.
A normal devilfish may only choose the submunition and barrage types.
A piranha may not take any new seeker missile types.
Hammerheads may choose EMP and tracer missiles.
Skyrays may change theirentire rack to a new type of missile for the following cost:
Submunition at +30 points
EMP at +30 points
Barrage at +25 points

Missile points cost are +20 points for a tracer missile, +15 for a submunition missile, +15 for an EMP missile, and +15 points for a barrage missile. Note that Tracer missiles take up two seeker missile slots.

edit: the EMP missiles roll a d6, and compare it to the following table:
1: nothing
2-4: glancing hit
5-6: penetrating hit

Sorry guys, about forgeting about that table.

Seeker Missile Strike 0-3
Doesn't take a force organization slot, and up to three may be taken.

Any enemy with 4 markerlights on it may be struck by a strike, but the missiles are at BS 4.
6 seeker missiles (60pts)
2 tracer missiles (40pts)
3 submunition missiles (45pts)
4 barrage missiles (60pts)

Lovin' the new seekers. The barrage ones, I assume, would lay down 2 blast templates from one hit? The Heavy 2 means that some clarification would be needed.

...And scattering on the barrage cannon means that I would be reluctant to take it.

Or 6" without LOS...yeah, I'd grab that in a second!

New Seekers look good, but the submunitions are supposed to be Smart Missles loaded into a Seeker warhead. I would therefore drop the S to 5, but make the blast ignore cover saves. That would be much better, in my opinion, and much more like how they're designed in Epic (and how the fluff states they work) The way you have them is great, but I think this is more how they're intended to be.

Interesting concepts, although there would basically be no reason to take regular Seekers anymore.

I like those ideas quite a lot. especially the ion barrage cannon. that packs some serious punch. especially for the points cost!

Do the Tau need these new missiles?

I like the Ion Barrage Cannon but I think its range should be more like G40" and only Heavy 1, this would have a similar affect to a 'wide area of effect energy weapon' and would be both fluffy and still work as a weapon.

On the missiles...
Why with the Tracer and Barrage? The Tau already have weapons like this and they don't need more. However I think both the submunition and EMP are interesting...Awhile back I used house rules for a submunition seeker with one of my mates, I just used the same rule as a railgun submunition. A submunition seeker needs to cost alot (35pts). Otherwise you could win a game on turn one if you are facing GEQ. EMP missiles treat as grenades that have automatically hit...

Thats my thoughts here...

I think the downside would be the cost of the missiles. You have to remember that to get even one is more expensive than a normal seeker. As for the Tracer missile, carrying one of those means no other Seekers can be carried. That would hurt some people a lot.
