Yes, a good start but if this is your first Tau army I would suggest a more varied force to learn to use the different types of units.

yes its a decent list but not a lot of mobility, drop a nine man fire warrior team, add 1 more fire warrior to the remaining 9 man team and add a devilfish for one of the firewarrior squads to give youself some mobility, equip it with decoy launchers and thats 500points exactly. If you are new to 40k though id start off with 400pt patrol missions as they are a great way of getting to grips with tactics.

I haven't had time to read the rulebook yet, but i'm trying to get an overwiev.

As I see it, FW's (with Pulse Rifles) are good at taking out ordinary troops (like Space Marines) that have a armor save over 5 (as the Pulse Rifle ignores it). But do a Pulse Rifle even have a theoritacal chance of wounding a tank with, lets say an armor of 13.
But what to use against heavy support, Ion Cannon or Railgun, and on what, HH???
Or do my Crisis suits with Plasma Rifles have a chance against, lets say a Vindicator?
As u see im pretty confused (altough its getting better by the minute).

the missile pod deals with armour well enough, but changing the commanders Plasma to FB could up the count of tankkillers (the normal suits BS3 wont be good enough to get off the one shot, other than that i stand w/ 42 on this.

So go with the Fireknife, add a Devilfish.
What strength do a weapon have to damage heavy support, or can anything harm everything?

umm the MP is S between 6 and 8 (is that vague enough?) so it glances armour 10 on a 3+ that what you wanted?

Pulse Rifles do not ignore Space Marine Armour saves. *Pulse rifles only ignore armour saves of 5+ and 6+, ie: Gaurd, Gaurdians, Orks

No, the best armour a pulse rifle can crack is AV11 (rhinos)

Railguns, always railguns. Hammerheads or Broadsides tend to be a matter of personal preference, although I prefer HH

Plasma rifles will crack up to AV12, so not vindicators, predators etc... Plasma rifles are however very effective marine killers. Leave the heavy vehicles for the railguns.
