Default Pulse Carbines

I was reading the weapon descriptions in the Tau Codex today, and whats this? Does the Pulse Carbine have photon grenades?!?! In the description it clearly points out that it mounts a photon grenade launcher, as well as in the photon grenade description it says that they are 'Identical to those used in pulse carbines' so this means buying photon grenades is just a cheap rip-off? That we can get these things for free just by switching to a carbine? What the heck am I talking about?

Seriously, is this how it works, and if so which models would loose their charging bonus? The entire enemy unit or just those within 2" of the model with the carbine?

no, the models w/ pulse carbines dont get photon 'Nades as the squad has the option to equip them, even pathfinders still have the option, IMO the undersling 'Nade launcher is the case of the carbines pinning.

Yep, the Underslung is rather annoyingly merely used to pin.

take photon grenades so they loose a bunch of attacks, during combat take off every guy in btb... at combat resolution assuming the other person didnt have terrible luck you shouldnt have any fws in btb anymore since they drop like flies... (you might need bonding for this) use an Ethereal to reroll if they pass their leadership then they fall back, the guys who just cut down half of the squad dont have any models in btb so they can only consolidate 3" freeing them up shoot at whoever just beat them up and letting other things shoot at them...

just in case those carbines fail

photon grenades are upgades for assault troops IMO, they make tau slighty, only slightly less worse in close combat, instead of wastnig points trying to cover up what were rubbish at its far better to accept that tau will only ever win combat when they are lucky and spend the points on waht tau do best - mobile firepower (they happen to do this bit pretty good some might say!)
