Default Flying high

I'm going to mount a Hammerhead tank on the base included in the box but substitute the transperent rod for a longer (12") piece of brass rod intead.

Will this affect the hammerhead in the game, for example do enemy trops draw LOS to the base or the model?

I know how this works with regular tanks but since the hammerhead has a flyng base i'm not sure.

The enemy will draw direct LOS to the model for structures, so mounting your Hammerhead on a higher base could hurt you that way. For Size 3 area terrain, it doesn't matter, since you don't trace LOS directly.

I suppose it will mean you can see over WYSIWYG terrain more easily, and be seen. For area terrain it will make no difference, tanks are size three no matter what their base looks like.

Are you going to need a very wide base to stop the whole thing toppling over? Not that this will effect the game either, as tanks don't have "bases" in the same sense as infantry or walkers, they simply have a "flying stand" (in the case of skimmers) which is equivalant to no base at all.

Best,
Gram

Why do you want it so high in the air?

I think it'd look quite cool, though it might require a bigger base like a photo frame (or whatever it's called).

I think you should do it, but 12" might be a little too high. Certainly, the inch and a half that the standard base gives might seem a little low. Five or six inches would be good.

I just thought of something that would effect the game, especially if you did it with a Devilfish:

When deploying passangers, or being assaulted, models are grouped around the vehicle. There are physical limits to where the models can be placed, i.e, not underneath the weapon/drones, but often just tucked under the engines. if you had a higher base, there would be more room, or rather, it would be harder to tell where the legitimate room should be. Unless you make the actual base in the shape of the tank's "footprint" this might have some small impact on how many models can crowd around the vehicle.

There would be pros and cons, but opponents might argue it occasionally.

Just a thought.

Best,
Gram

Cognrats on the megaforce. Isn't it "unsupervised game store kid" though?

I think it'd be a great idea, though a foot is quite high... extremely high... like super high...
Granted, it may look cool, but is it really practical? It might be hard to store it as one piece, or even as seperate pieces. I think a lower base would be a better idea, something like 3"-6". You'll get the same effect wihtout the risks/impracticalities.

All the best.

Your right 12" might be a bit much, 8 inches wold be better, as 2" will be inside the hammerhead and stabilized by milliputt, so that would make the hammerhead float 6" above ground.

Congrats on the megaforce sarnas, will be getting one of those myself this fall.

Thanks for the input everyone!

Do you ever utilise the Landing Gear? You'll need to be able to detach the base if you do.
