Hey gents, I was wondering if I could get some thoughts on how the kroot act and live on their Homeworld of Pech.

How advanced is their technology?

Do they have car type transports?

Do they have their own spacecraft?

Alot of that you can learn simply by reading the Tau Codex... particularly the older one.

How advanced is their technology?

This depends, and puzzled even the Por sent to Pech to study the Kroot. They use slug-throwing rifles with las-based charges, sleep in hamocks, and yet pilot massive Warspheres (see below).

Do they have car type transports?

They may have had, but no longer - the Kroot adapted technology and it failed them, almost dooming them to destruction by the Orks. They now have a simple tribal society, and tend to use beasts like Knarlocs for transport.

Do they have their own spacecraft?

Crude ones, but yes. Warspheres are massive spacegoing hulks with thrusters and gun mounts all over them. The Kroot possess Warp-travel capacity, but apparently navigate instinctively, only being able to travel to systems with functional ecosystems.

Wow. Dra'Tuisich-Novae posted just before me and said exactly what I wanted to say. Buuut, since I went to all the work to do it, here's my version.

Uh, read the codex. Also check out the Kroot Merc list- it's free online from the chapter approved section.

Basically Kroot used to have a high level of tech, then threw it all out when it failed to save them as orks kicked their butt. So now they live pretty much mud-hut, totem-worshipping feral.

One thing they did keep from the orks was they absorbed the ability to build crude spacecraft. These are the kroot warspheres- that's how they get around.

No, it doesn't. There's lots of stuff online though, from the GW website (a lot of it's on the UK site) and the Specialist games website. And yes, thier tech is varied. Thier rifles, for instance, were originally a blackpower weapon, however the Tau gave them las charged rounds when they took them into the Empire.

Basically they had a very advanced society at one point, spanning several systems through the Perdus Rift and outside of it. I can't say I've seen how many worlds, but I would guess in the hundreds. Then Orks attacked and destroyed thier cities and other tech through years and years of constant war, and whittled them down to I think maybe 9 systems that they could barely hold, and Pech was the "last stand" planet for the Kroot. When the Tau came and helped defeat the Orks, the Kroot never bothered to pursue tech again, besides their Warspheres, which is really only kept because it allows them to do thier merc work and to travel with the Tau. I personally think it's because the Tau have just handed everything to them, and if it ever comes to the Tau distancing the Empire from the Kroot, the race may be in some trouble.

Dubious. The Kroot can make do easily with what they have at hand as tribal creatures, and would have no trouble finding more DNA to introduce; they'll fight alongside anyone who'll pay them... and (should by some bizzare, fluff-raping circumstance make it necessary) the Kroot could even evacuate to a new home system without the Tau having much to say about it, as they can use the Warp to full effect.

Well, the main reason they're any amount of a threat to anyone right now is those charges. Should the Tau stop the supply eventually the Kroot would have to go back to black power, which would make thier weapons not much more of a threat than a lasgun. And even then, they don't have quite the numbers to make those low-power weapons count. Although, they do have that fun Gremlins reproductive ability. Need some babies? Let's get some blisters on our backs...heh.
