Default Chapter Approved?

Does anyone here actually think that Farsight enclave rules will be chapter approved?. I, myself, hope with the most eagerness out of all the tau players in my store. But if it does get chapter approved will the Enclaves be too powerful? Knowing GW they would tone down the firepower and make some modifications unto which will alternatively make tau moderate at CQC. I at least want to be better or as good as eldar/dark eldar. I'm gettin very tired of having to rely on lady luck so heavily. So maybe i can actually be more glad to charge into close combat screaming like a tau god of war then to have to face the enemy with diminished confidence. Besides I'd love to see tau power weapons if they make any. 8)

I personally think that it will never happen. Simply because it would have to make Tau moderate at cc at least. Such a change coupled with the already excelent Tau firepower (even if it is cut down some) would raise a storm of complaints from all sorts of other players. Whenever I fought in an allied battle with my Tau and my ally had units good at cc my opponents would always complain that mixing Tau guns with other races bloody close quarters prowess was overpowered and cheesy.

Its because of the obvious complaints that I doubt GW will ever expand on Farsight's Enclaves too much and most certainly would not make the general mass of them much if any better in cc than normal Tau.

I agree with Vash on this one.

The Farsight Enclave already has rules in the Codex, mainly restrictions placed upon them when fielding them.

And their sole CC "prowess" is gained from years of fighting orcs (as is represented by their special rules). Not from developing power weapons or actually becoming CC monsters themselves. See it as "defensive martial arts against a certain attack style".

You DO know that DE are, at least in theory, a specialised CC army? Making Tau as good as them would be - well... unbalanced, to say the least....

Why not just give Fire Warriors +1 S, +1 WS, +1 T and make them 5-10 points more expensive? You'd have less of them but they'd be more adept at both roles. Besides, with Farsight, you don't get Kroot, so they just lost their main pseudo-CC guys.

Would be interesting to get Tau with bayonets on their rifles, though.

I added bayonets on tau rifles for fun lol. they should cost as much as a space marine normal troop. With Medium firepower and moderate CQC

remove missle pods, rail guns, marker lights, and seeker missles.
then limit the number of pulse rifles per squad to 1/2 the squad( like old codex only backwards)

The problem with the notion of adding +1 S, T, and WS to a fire warrior is ignorant (objectively, not personally, speaking) of the disproportionate power that a S5 weapon presents. The pulse rifle is a full point of strength higher than the bolter, and the bolter itself is a full point above "average" for 40K's standard troops. You have to understand the difference between S4 and S5 basic firepower as exponentially better than the difference between S3 and S4.

Same goes for the difference in CC of S3 T3 WS2 and the (combined) stats S4 T4, WS3 (and while I'm on the argument, I'd gladly take WS2 if I could have I3).

I can never understand Tau players who love Kroot in part because I consider pulse rifles the ratling weapons of the 40K universe (especially at Ballistic Skill 4, which happens a lot for me).

There is a certain hypocrisy in Farsight lists, because they're still Tau, and really don't seem to be ANY more effective in CC than "regulars". It wasn't so glaring in the old Tau codex.

I always thought a better way to handle a Farsight list was to add a power-type weapon to our codex for his group, along with the restrictive points additions to Farsight crisis suits to give them more I and such.

I liked the "old way" of making him a list that made Crisis Suits more assaulty, if not a whole lot more so. But that list was designed for 3rd edition, when crisis suits could hide behind friendly troops.

Special rules:
Ork Fighter: All models have the preferred enemy rule (orks) at +3 a model
Combat Swords: Every model in the squad may be equiped with combat swords at the cost of 10pts a model. Gives +1 attack and +1 initiative

Honestly speaking no, we will never see a Farsight enclave chapter approved article.

Why?

When was the last time they released ANY new Chapter Approved articles?

They're moving away from cool/fun rules that require you to convert up some crazy troops and into "if it's not in the codex you can't use it"

Your geting a demon prince for 18 points just with out the upgrades.

Why are you demoting their Ld?

O'shavah mods for tau army-
5 points per unit(in addition to each trooper and upgrades)
Increse I by 1 and give all modells in a squad ork fighter.
Mandatory upgrade for all non drone units.(drones can't get it)
Drones are 11 points and can be feilded as NON mandatory troop chocies as well as fast attack.(this repesents the smaller # of tau wich forces them to implament drones more.)

I was amazed when they relesed the "counts as WD" with all the counts as material, it was filler but still they were saying you CAN repsent oddels that arn't in the codex's.
