Default anti-whirlwind tactics

I am a new tau player, and would like to know one thing: are there any good anti whirlwind tactics that don't involve stealthsuits or markerlights? I want to know because my friend is a new space marine player and he is going to get a whirlwind soon and I heard that their really good against tau (anti infantry).

One word: Hammerhead.

A Hammerhead will run rings around the whirlwind and will most likly destroy it pretty quick!!! >
If not then throw some broadside shots at it!

If you look back in the board shouldnt be past the second page there was a topic by a guy having problems with a basilisk, as it is the same kind of problem that might be good reading.

all my opinions are laid out in that topic so I wont reitterate them here.

two squads of broad sides positiond at both ends of your deployments zone. One squad should be able to see it, and then. Down side is you just spent alot more then he/she did.

Maybe two hammer heads would be better.

I know you said no markerlights...but it could be a useful option...use the pathfinders pre-turn move to get into position so they can see the whirlwind (your opponent will put it behind scenery for sure) and then markerlight it and launch seeker missiles from a devilfish. Alternativly, the other way to take it down without using hevay support is to deep strike some gun drones behind it so they can snipe its weak (10) back armour! happy hunting

be aware that the DS Drones will be about 96pts and they will most prob get cut down when they have killed the WW

well, those drones sole purpose was to deep strike and kill artillery, so if they suceed I wouldn't feel bad. I wouldn't use my whole army like that though.

Something that has worked for me is a Shas'o with missiles, he killed that Wirlwind good!

yes shas'o or 'el could be useful as he could get in LOS and still manage not to be targeted with the IC rules

thats what I keep telling ppl, fireknife commander and 2 suits to abuse the IC rule. the commander can pick off tanks 1`w/ his MP as he has high bs and so TL isnt required , while the fireknife suits take on some other squad thus not wasting shots. one of the most effective unit combos ever. ;D
