Default Photon Grenade launcher

where can i find the stats for the PGL or is it the same as an imperial one?

you mean the thing under the carbine? it gives the pinning effect to the carbines shot. thats it really...

I've never seen a Tau grenade launcher as a weapon option. I think the "underslung" GL's are just for fluff.

besides, with the effects of PG's, it doesn't make much sense to use them as an offensive weapon anyway.

there is no rules for the PGL. in fact, it doesn't exist as a singular weapon. it is merely, as beforestated, underslung on the pulse carbine to add the pinning effect. it isn't a bad idea to use the carbine, either. i personally prefer the rifles, but in a mech tau army, carbines can put certain enemies in a world of hurt.

Wouldn't the underslung PGL just be there to allow you to use photon grenades without having to represent the model about to throw it? It makes sense to me, since you wouldn't have to put them into some weird pose where they hold up a gun and a grenade.

The carbine is the assault weapon of the Tau army. It is like our modern submachine guns with plenty of options.

The rifle is like the modern assault rifle, without as many options on it. Origionally I think it was based off the typical 'redcoat' rifle as it did not have rapid fire in it's inception.

The photon grenade launcher allows you to use the effects of photon grenades without paying for them (I think). This I think is one of the benefits to get you to use pulse carbines instead of rifles

Nope. The photon grenade launcher is what gives the Carbine it's pinning ability. It does nothing else.

Though I would like it if it was possible to pay extra points to have it be able to launch EMP grenades... say like 15 pts per model. That would be VERY cool and be fluffy and give Tau anti-tank ability in their squads with them having heavy weapons.

Just to be precise, the redcoats didn't use rifles. They used smooth bore muskets that were fast to load but not accurate over 50 yards. The baker rifle was the first rifle and was incredibly slow to load. The rifle was issued to light regiments who would go ahead of the main army. Just thought I'd mention it...

same idea. Very poor hand to hand, while they rely more on shooting in blocks.

But now that they have rapid fire, they're more like modern assault rifles instead of one-shot-reload deals as they were in ancinet times.
