Why is the Tau's strategy rating so low??

After all they have excellent communication, as well as excellent integration of their forces.

So why do they have a lower rating than Chaos or Dark Eldar? It should at least be a 2, and I think a 3 is not unrealistic.

Maybe it has to do with the idea that the other races are many times over older than them.

Also consider that the tau are sloth-like in comparison to most other races, and it is only by their technology that they are able to wage war... (to an extent; although this has nothing to do with strat rating)

Since the other races are older, wouldn't that make them forgetful and hard of hearing? ;D Hardly the qualities one looks for in well commanded organization.

1) Tau are naive.
2) Moderate-paced Imperial Warp travel is faster than Tau interplanetary communications. Tau use small drone-operated messenger ships that skim across the edge of the warp at short jumps, which is much slower. An Imperial invasion force could attack each planet in a system separately, as they would arrive before any warning.
3) The Tau empire is small. They don't have the huge amount of tactical resources that the Eldar, Necron, or Imperium have.
4) They don't have the knowledge base about the other races that many other forces have.

So hopefully after Medusa V most of those problems will be eliminated as we will have had lots of contact with other races and access to warp travel.

Just keep in mind... the Tau will have to have an empire AT LEAST as big as any other race in the game to be their equal. Even then, they won't be on the same par due to all the other reasons...

Doubtful. The success of Medusa V seems very little. GW seems to already have an outcome in mind which is more than a little irritating and Tau arent doing well either. We are in the red. Plus GW never said we would get warp travel if we succeeded and the contact with other races is not that extencive either. You can only learn so much at the end of a gun.

Point is Tau do not have the tactical resources other races do. Eldar and Dark Eldar can launch attacks from the webway totally undetected until they strike and many times thats the killing blow. Chaos can appear out of the warp at random and summon crazy things. Space Marines are made for such quick tactical strikes. Tau just cant match that... yet. But its going to be a long time before the Tau Empire can call on the resources and speed of travel that other races do. Not to mention the knowledge other races have accumulated.

In any case just do a forum search there have been other discussions on this.

Also Ui Veta size really does not matter too much in 40k. The Necrons have no empire, nor do the Eldar for the most part. Aside from protected exodite worlds and necron tomb worls the Eldar live on mobile Craftworlds and the Necrons sleep on dead worlds. Chaos has a few strongholds but they arent too extencive and the orks have no single organized empire just more than a few small ones they occasionally launch waaaaghs from. The Tyranids also dont have an "empire" just a trail of lifeless rocks. The size of ones holdings does not matter and by the time the Tau did get an empire large enough to equal the Imperium in size all other problems will have likely been fixed but that wont be for a very, very, very long time.

Now that said this has been discussed before, topic locked.
