Default What d you think of this stealth suit loadout?

3 Stealth suits, 2 gun drones, 2 shield drones, 2 marker drones = 200 points

Just a thought, it's more of a fluffy unit than anything, but it could do quite a bit. It would statistically markerlight 1 time a turn. As a unit it has 11 STR5 AP5 shots 2 with pinning and slightly better accuracy. And it has 5 3+ wounds with 2 4+inv saves. as well as 4 wounds@ 4+saves. It is a lot more survivable than a basic 6 man stealth squad, though not as offensive, and it can help other units with it's markerlight. After it markerlights, it could jump into cover. Would make a good stand off unit which would markerlight long range targets and patrol the deployment zone for incoming infantry. What do you think?

It should be quite inifective.

The marker drones are Heavy Wep's as such you cant JSJ any more if you want to fire them. This makes your burstcannons/gun drones useless if you want to fire the markerlights, unless of cource you can move into range of the burstcannons and then fire them all (just dont jump out) But now your stealth feild will be next to useless and what ever you fired at will most likely be able to hit you.

I much prefer a 6-man squad, with x6 targetting arrays, which means you've got a spray of fire, which is more likely to hit.

or instead you can use pathfinders which cost about the same, get more markerlights, rail rifles and a devilfish that opperates however you want it to, outside the squad. and they take up fast attack instead of elite. c'mon dude 30 points for 3 rail rifels chah

true, I guess I was just looking at it more as a fluff unit where each suit was a specialist with a specific type of drone.

BTW it can still jump in the assault phase after it markerlights. Making it somewhat more survivable than the pathfinders.

But yeah in comparison, it really isn't that effective

Losing mobility is a death-warrant for them. Plus, the difference in range becomes a hindrance in this case because its also a difference in roles... not to mention the unit size (try hiding THAT behind cover... Or if you do, watch what happens if a large-blast comes their way. ouch) and cost. Other units could take markerlights for far, far cheaper, without so many penalties. Put those 110 points anywhere else and you'll see it used more effectively.

To add on what Solourus said: Stealth fields lose efficiency the closer you get; and begin to severely wane in power under 21". So JSJ to 24 keeps you quite safe... but getting in close to use fusions (so under 18" jump-back) or even just standing there to fire heavies at the same time will cost you. Excellent chance for them to land some assaulters tucked away somewhere too (we're not the only deepstriking, infiltrating and quick-moving guys after all).

Before trying to get extra versatility out of them (fusion's also not so great on'em for similar reasons in MOST cases) try to remember that the trusty old pulse-weapon statline is overly versatile already, working somewhat ok against anything below AV12, MC's and hordes included.

Now 2 gundrones and 1 shield-drone is something one can get behind. The slightly higher accuracy of gundrones means they're marginally more effective on a hits-per-point basis than the suits. The shield drone's a little more expensive, but considering it can save that first lascannon/plasma strike, its worth it. Same footprint as a 6-man team (this can be very bad if you're not careful) without as many shots, but not nearly as expensive, and still good for its role.

The best suggestion I could give you though, if you've got 120 points and want to do this...

Stealth team + Sniper drone team. You can have up to 3 of each (with the snipers taking just one slot even at 3 teams). And if you had 200 points budgeted, well here's the bonus: While you'll only have ONE markerlight, you'll be getting THREE rail-rifles in exchange, in a seperate unit (which means you can do both roles without severe efficiency loss AND do'em at the same time), and still have enough points left to buy a FOURTH suit for that stealth squad.

Oh yeah, I love them snipers for sure. To add to something you missed about sniper goodness, those rail rifles have target locks. And the Spoter has a TA so he markerlights on a 3+ Sweet.

Maybe as a fluffy army we could run 18 stealth suits kitted out in various ways as well as 3 sniper teams and Commander Shadowsun. That way every possible stealth equipped team would be on the field.

We could call em "Shas'o Smiths invisible hands" and then paint dollar signs all over their armor. ;D
