Default An old gripe, or a misunderstanding?

Now, the long range of the pulse rifle is 30". If I remember correctly, though, its rapid-fire range is only 12", the same as everyone else. Has this been addressed in the new rules? Am I making a mistake here?

yes its still the same..some people think rapid fire is half range....but as far as im aware it still is 12" to all rapid fire weapons (should be half range IMO)

Yeah, rapid fire range for all weapons is still 12 inches

+++The main reason people tend to think it's [sup]1[/sup]/[sub]2[/sub] range is because most rapid fire weapons (bolter, plasma gun, lasgun) have 24" range. It's not a mistake that it's only 12" though, it's always been the rule+++

That is what I thought. Is that fair, though? It seems like the longer range of the pulse rifle rarely comes into play.

I'm sure 42 would tell you differently about the times when he's battled me

hehehe...its by far the best standard weapon in the game...it can be used as either a long range weapon for static teams or a short ranged assault weapon for disembarking mechanised teams

I almost invariably play against Marines these days. *Generally, any unit further than 18 inches from one of my firebases is left to the battlesuits and the tanks. *My poor Fire Warriors are generally occupied by assault squads, rhino-mounted squads, and deep-striking terminators. *The difference between 12 and 15 inches would make a greater difference than that between 24 and 30. *Occasionally, I find myself without targets nearby, but it is still rare for my enemy to just happen to be between 24" and 30" away. *I am not familiar with the new rules, though. *If I move so that my enemy will be out of his range but still in mine, I can't fire at long range anyway. *It can be very frustrating.

I still think it is a great weapon, but I think that the 12" range is a victim of GW's simplifications back when everything was 24". It really should be half-range.

Don't get too greedy, bear in mind that it is supposed to be the standard trooper weapon, and I think that with strength 5 it is an extremely good one. 12 inches, 15 inches, Tau can't have everything...
