Dark Eldar the Tau likely didnt have time to even begin trying to start negotiations before the fighting started. Might not even have anyone left alive when the fightings done. Eldar it depends, might have peaceful negotiations or might have to find themselves fighting. Each craftworld differs in its policies in such areas.

Chaos again probably had to start fighting before they could even try to talk. Theres a fluff piece on the GW site about Tau encountering chaos. Finding the aftermath of a chaos attack when the Tau did encounter the chaos warriors it was shoot first ask questions later.

The Tau do try diplomacy when possible but they arent dumb.

What happened to them? The Eldar manipulated them for better or for worse, Chaos corrupted them (what little they can be corrupted...) and the DE tortured them all. 'Nuff said.

There's a funny pic in one of those past WD's where it was an article on modelling Daemon Worlds gaming boards. It showed the tau trying to bring news of the greater good to the iron warriors who responded with landraiders. lol :funny:

But seriously, the DE and Chaos would probably take the ambassadors as sacrifices rather than kill them on the spot.

Eldar would have forseen it coming and then either welcomed them, avoided them, or destroyed them before they got too close.

The Eldar would be... haughty with the dealings of these new Tau, but recognize the value of them. Friendly guys who breed fast and don't want us dead.

Altioc saved the fledgeling Empire from a massive Waaagh!

Eldar are allied with Demiurg, Demiurg sell ion tech to Tau. Coincidence? I think it could go either way!

I doubt that the Water Caste have ever had protracted dealings with Eldar, Dark Eldar, or Chaos. The thng you have to remember is that Water Caste ambassadors need a venue in which to contact other races. They rarely accompany Fire Caste Cadres into the field. Eldar are almost impossible to contact, even for the Imperium. They contact you when they want something. The Tau would not have anywhere to send the Water Caste. The same is even more true for the Dark Eldar. The only way they would encounter Water Caste is if the Por happened to be around when they showed up. The Water Caste may have encountered Chaos if they had ambassadors on a world that had been overtaken by cultists in one form or another. Many Imperial nobles have been corrupted at one time or another, and any Water Caste in their court would be in a position to negotiate. The Alpha Legion might have had some contact with the Tau in this manner. Aside from that, I would guess that contact has been minimal. Those three races just don't stay in one place long enough for the Tau to send in the Por.

I agree those three races, well Chaos and Dark Eldar, could not be so easily convinced to join up on a crusade. The Chaos usually takes advantage of other races then crushes them and the Dark Eldar could possibily be bribed but not controlled. Eldar could match up but would break off to look for more interesting things. The codex says there good at what they do so any thing is possible.
