Default Ethereal upgrade

I have been thinking of this for some time based on the need to give extra protection. So this is a command walker which is piloted by a Shas'El (minimum) with an additional passenger seat for the Ethereal.

Tau Walker
Armour
Front: 14
Side: 12
Rear: 10

Flechette Discharger - to give an initial HTH bonus
BS: 4 - By adding a target lock
Blacksun filter - for night fighting
Decoy Launcher - re roll immobilized
Disrution pod - reduce maximum range by 6"
2 x Gun drones
Shield Generator - 4+ invulnerable save

Pts 156

Weapons

5 x Hardpoint which can take any of the vehicle weapons which count as two hardpoint locations
or any troop weapon which uses a single HP, in the event of a conflict use the higher HP cost.

Upgrades
Use Shas'el as a pilot +25 BS+1

The normal rules for the Ethereal apply for moral checks

That armour 14 would make this a heavy support choice if your going at all by the VDR, to be honest i really dont like it, it doesnt seem realisitc, doesnt suit the tau fluff and just doesnt fit in a tau army....too many weapons options for a riduclously low points cost, im sorry to be so blunt and harsh, cute idea having an ethereal going around in a walker but to put it simply...NO

For a nice Ethereal upgrade, I'd look to the special character Aun and his hard-wired Shield Generator. A 4+ invulnerable save would go a long way to making the Aun a lot more ever-present on the battlefield!

WOW!!! Talk about over kill!!! It seems a little too tough for a tau style of play (the armour value i mean). I think that it should be toned down to: 13 Armour front and 12 side and 11 rear; Skimmer (everybody loves skimmers!); 4 hardpoints to tone down the weapons

meh' I hate Etherals w/ extreme predjudice, they are going to die and your army is going to run. end of story. and that is overkill, why would you take that instead of a crisis commander and 2 suits (piggyback w/ IC rule)? its just worse.

If you take a bodygaurd for the commander doesnt he lose his indepent rule and can be targeted if hes not the closest unit? also theyre 10 points more for a unit which is better is cc, hmm, i regard that as slightly mad, but hey i suppose you do it for the extra hard point! Also an indepentend character can only be targeteted if hes the closest to the firer..end of story...so its even easier to keep an ethereal safe..furthermore now you have to take more ladership tests in the game (for shooting at units which arent closest etc.) re-rolling leadership tests become very useful.

I do like the ethereal for color, although I feel that his uniqueness has been diminished slightly by the new Space Marine commander rules. He has never played much of a role. He has never died in all the times I have used him, and he has never had to kill anything. I honestly wouldn't want to make him any more of a target than he already is.

+++I'll second that, plus it'll make my traitor ethereal in heavy looking armour much more WYSIWYG! I can't see any fluff reason why the Tau would have trouble making more than one H/W shield generator, but if it would make ethereals unbalanced then just up the points cost for the upgrade +++

I think a walker is a bit much, espically the one your describing. First it puts him in a veicheals which anyone can target. Second it puts your etherial into a combat role, which they never should be in.
IMO all they need is shild gen., especially now with the nerfing of drones :-\.
