Default Ethereal... I don't get it.

I was looking at the ethereal's weapons config and it got me thinking, it can have Honor blade or 2 close combat weapon, but now... WHAt weapons!? Do tau have some close combat weapons, and i missed in the codex!? Or are weapons from other races!? Aren't they too proud to "borrow"?

Can someone enlighten me, please?

The close combat weapons are Tau tech. I think that you are confusing normal cc weapons with pwoer weapons. A normal CC weapon is like a steel rod. A power weapon is like a plasma torch (sorry I can't think of better examples.) You can see the weapons on page 51 of the Tau codex. (the ethereal in the white robes without the staff.)

The "symbols of office", with the dodgy model, count as and additional close combat weapon. Dodgy I know but that is the rules. I am annoyed that the onour blade does not count as an additional melee weapon the old honour blade model had two blades. Anyway, get and honour blade, the model looks way more awesome.

you can see to new symbols of office model on th right in the pic and the two honourblade models to the left.

Close combat weapons are anything... it can be a simple stick for that matter.

Why do you think pistols give an additional attack in close combat? Well because they are so small that they can be used in close combat as blundering (spelling) weapons.

one of the new etherials looks like he's got a pair of dumbells. and that he's working out. im sure a whack on the head with a pair of dumbells would ruin anyone's day!

The two small weapons the Ethereal can carry are not considered close combat weapons, they are symbols of office, they just count as close combat weapons in battle. And the reason you cannot find them in the Tau armoury is because they are only for an Ethereal's use, they are only located in the Ethereal's profile.
