Default Piranhas!!!

Has anybody bought any of the new piranhas? they are so cool. i use two in city fights in the tank hunting role because i find that broadsides dont have many firing lanes. has anybody else bought piranhas and if so who do you use them? anti infantry or anti tank?

I've used them for both and I find them to be a really fun unit to use. Personally I'm starting to lean toward using 2 independant fusion piranhas, but I still like the burst cannon variation as its different to most of the other anti-infantry shooting in the tau army.

I use two independant piranhas as anti tank when needed. When facing mostly infantry forces they stay on the shelf but they are excelent at downing armor. Each time Ive used them they bagged more than 3 tanks including a Land Raider each time. But for anti infantry purposes I leave that to other units.

I use 1 as a late game quarter grabber or disputer. This is the best role for it, as it moves very quick, is a lesser threat, and costs are minimal.

I use two for late game objetive grabbers and run em up the flanks to kill characters, tanks, and indirect fire baddies.

Against infantry they cost way too much and draw way too much fire for their one burst cannon, but in CoD their 24 inch move makes them great tank hunters with an FB.

I use 2 of them in my 1500 list ( the List I'm still glue'ing and painting )

and 1 of them in my 500 pts list.

I feel that in my 500 pts list its a bit of a blacksheep.
It hasn't really got a good role.
I tested it twice.
Once versus Orcs, and once versus necrons.

The time versus orcs there was a killa kan on the table. A battlesuit took that out so the piranha didn't really had a role. Since Orc characters tend to be swamped by boys ( no IC Hunting )

And versus necrons I had it go up against a tombspyder ( too bad I found out I couldn't insta kill it lol )

But I think its a real opportunist unit.
Basically I miss the JSJ that I got in the rest of my army ( my 500 pts list can all jsj except the 2 6man firewarrior squads and the piranha )

And that's something that's bothering me a bit.

In the bigger games I think you can use them swell for hunting annoying Bassilisks or other Indirect Fire things.

But like I said its a real opportunist tool.
Use it just on special occasions.

BUT HEY ! The model looks really good !

i agree with the statements about it being bad fro troops hunting. What I really wish is that for 20 points, it could replace the drones with two burst cannons. Then, it would be amazing at anti-infantry. Until then, I use it for hunting tanks and other nasty things that can hurt me, but die.

My config:

Pirhana with fusion blaster, decoy launchers, targeting array (75)

What you guys think, and what are your configs for teh piranha?
