Default Seeker missile Question.

When a seeker missle is fired at a vehicle is the front armour used(or the armour of your choice) or is it the armour that is facing say the pathfinders that loosed the shot off becasue there was a lot discussion about it at the local club. i believe you use the armour exposed to the markerlight firer.

Am i correct?

you used the armor that's facing to the vehicle from who the missile comes from.

example: p = pathfinder
* * * * * * * < = tank facing to the left
* * * * * * * t = tau vehicle with seeker missile

1)
* * * p* * <* * t

here you will use the armor at the rear of the tank

2)
* * * * p* * <

* * * * * * * t
now you will use the side-armor

I hope this makes things clear

"Draw" a straight line from the seeker missle to the intended target and whatever side the line is touching is the side that is hit.

Yeah, it's pretty clear in the codex that the seeker missile travels in a straight line from the model carrying it to the target, NOT where the markerlight hits. You can easily mark the front armour of an enemy tank, and have a piranha move up the flank and let off a seeker at the side or even rear armour.

That's pretty much my main use for piranhas, really. Get that thing behind a 'Russ or Falcon, and tag the front with a markerlight.

Then roll a 2 or 3 for AP and enjoy the fireworks.

Of course if it doesn't blow up... well, that's why you have multiple markerlights and TWO seekers on the fishie, right?

That's why I say the ML isn't a laser like it's made out to be, more like some low-radiation marker, so the Seekers etc can see from the other side.

I figure the markerlight system INCLUDES a laser, but its not the only component. its used for rangefinding and obtaining the target coordinates; probably for GPS style systems. The missiles are certainly not laser-guided like some GBU-28.

Oh nice ! That way you can just park youre little fishy behind some size 3 terrain and wait for the light.

Well suppose if the markerlight was just a laser point.

And the laser point would be at the frond of the tank.
The seeker missile from the piranha wich is somewhere in the behind region of the tank ( if youre smart that is ) would than fly a straight path to the laser, going over anoying terrain.
Than if if encounters any armour it explodes.
Because if it flies a straigth path to the front of the armour from behind, it encounters the rear one first

Yeah, I seen way too many people forgoting that a SM does not need LOS to reach it's target. Too many fishes left exposed and blow sky high.
