Do you want to have it full of passengers like the FW one? Why not try making a smaller scale dropship like the one you start in in the game; Fire Warrior.

For that you could convert a devilfish (maybe even extend one fish by attaching the back section of a second fish) and you'd have the four engines etc. Model the fire warriors checking weapons etc?

I get the feeling that he want's an Orca, but doesn't want to pay for it, so he probably wants it to look like an Orca too.

Your best bet is to use Plasticard, which you should be able to get at a local modelling store. If your good enough you may be able to make a reasonable base model with plasticard and add bits from a Devilfish or green stuff for the detail. Either way scratch making is a tough job so you may want to ask for help from the guys in the conversion board, they should be of more help.

I wasn't aware there were two types of Orcas... After I beat fire warrior and saw the model on forge world with all the FWs in their seats I was like

WTF!? THERE ARE NO SEATS IN ORCA DROPSHIPS!!

It's an awesome looking model, but it could quite be the biggest waste of money ever. With $500 i could make my car run a year longer, buy myself an decent entertainment system, eat, even not have to worry about booze for a semester...

I can't even see how someone could think of buying this unless they were a hardcore Tau fan, really into buy/building/painting Forgeworld stuff, or just loaded with cash to blow. Besides it's a ton points, so you aren't going to use it much even if your opponent agrees to let you play with it. If you got half a grand to blow go for it, but for that money I'd definitely want something more than a nice display piece.

Anyways, do the Firewarrior one. Its cheap and I think would look better than the whale of a model Forgeworld put together...( )

Two DF "converted" together sounds alot better than an Orca. I really don't like that model but it is a cool way to get your Etheral and honour guard into battle. Yours will probably look like a smaller version of Grey Deaths one(sorry I don't have a link).
