Default Mech Tau Powergaming?

I recently finished purchasing and constructing my 2000 pt mech tau army and have only played a few battles with them, and have been doing well. Sadly, many people have been telling me that mech tau is overpowered and powergaming. This upsets me because I left Eldar to avoid being called a powergamer! Do you guys think mech tau are overpowered?

To let you know, this has been discussed before. Now having said that (and with nothing better to do...) It's not powergaming. Yes, mechtau can be a handful, but every army out there has what it takes to beat them. Besides, if you aren't a good judge of distance or are facing an extremely quick army (like my stealer/zilla nids) then you will lose, and regularly. It comes down to having to have good tactics and the ability to predict what your opponent will do. As you get used to the army it will be much easier, and the fact that you started with eldar should help in that regard.

On the other hand, I prefer Hybrid. I just love my broadsides, and wouldn't be willing to give them up to go pure mech. But thats just me.

It's a bit annoying to face. It really depends on your playing environment, and your list. A table full of skimmers with 6 fire warriors and 10 kroot is powergaming. A balanced list with choices from all over is not... unless nobody around you is packing enough antitank weapons. It's really their fault, but since you're the only one acting differently, you get blamed for it.

How common are vehicles where you play?

While very mobile, they don't have an overwhelming advantage; most forces that can't keep up at least have better range/firepower so that you'll always be at risk. The rest can either catch up (so you're only delaying the inevitable) or will slaughter the tau if they manage to corner them. The mobility's not up to par with Eldar/DE, and our MARGINALLY improved firepower over other armies doesn't completely compensate for being worse than necrons and IG at melee.

There's far more powerful, faster, more heavily armored (and not necessarily just one of these at a time.....) forces out there, and they're usually the ones crabbing about mech "cheese". As long as you list is fairly balanced (and its tougher to twink out since tau don't have craftworlds, chapters or armored companies to do this with) then any crying they do is from their own inability to deal with the situation. They're not playing this game so they'll have to do something as bothersome as thinking you know.

Or maybe, just maybe, their army's a little too specialised? You could easily call my army 'mech': only 2 full squads of warriors in fishies, and lots of drones, suits, 2 hammerheads... slowest thing's a pair of ASS broadsides. Yet I lose against Chaos and IG almost half the time. If they corcner me, I'm in trouble. if they get a lucky shot from an angle because I didn't quite manage to hide the hammerhead, I'm in trouble. Plenty can go wrong.

It's no more overpowered than the vast majority of Eldar builds that get called overpowered. People just tend to call any army that doesn't stand and shoot overpowered. The Tau and the Eldar have good vehicles, and it's not wrong to use them. They have things that can hit from beyond LoS, and it's not cheesy just to make use of them. The power of the Railgun is balanced out by its low availability, and the Pulse Rifle is balanced by the lack of heavy weapons.

I like being on the other side of the table. Because I hate tau. Now, what is your actually army list? Because depending on what is in it can change people's opinions. Your basically asking if a chaos lord that walked through an entire army is broken, but lo and behold it could of been a grot! Cause grots poop on tau. Give us your list.

actually everyone i play loves to face my Mech army.* they all think it is a fun opportunity to play a more fast paced game than any of the other armies there, and it provides them with the challenge of fighting off units that can strike out of nowehere.

anyone who calls Mech Tau a cheezy army is just tactically inept or doesnt enjoy challenges, in which case they should not be playing 40k, or any GW game for that matter.* once again, your basic infantry squad will average about 215 points, meaning very little numbers and relying on one squad too much.* along with other disadvantages.

as for asking a biased crowd, many people that make plenty of Eldar lists have said that it is hard to cheese with Tau and some say it is nigh impossible.* so all in all you are looking at it from the exact opposite of a biased opininon.* in fact you could easily say that the people calling Mech cheeze are the biased ones because of their unwillingness to accept challenges such as that.

Lol!

Anything that is different from people's expectations/ experiences is always going to be labelled as cheesy by the whiner brigade.

I'd take no notice.
