Default Aeronautica Imperialis

From the last FW newsletter:

Quote:
'Aeronautica Imperialis'
So what is it then? ‘Aeronautica Imperialis’ is the name of our new game of aerial combat in the 41st millenium currently in development. It is a complete, stand alone game using the existing Forge World Epic 40,000 aircraft range, with additional new models we are now working on. ‘Aeronautica Imperialis’ is far more than just dog-fighting; there will be bombing missions, intercept sorties, troop insertions and extractions, strike missions, as well as pure air-to-air, fighter-vs-fighter combat. ‘Aeronautica Imperialis’ will be a large format hardback book, containing all the rules, aircraft datasheets, manouvere cards and scenarios needed to play the game. Of course there will be lots of background information on each of the aircraft in this big book, as well as many colour profiles and ‘photos’ of them locked in deadly combat. Imperial Navy players will be able to fly missions using Thunderbolts, Lightnings, Marauders and Marauder Destroyers. Imperial Space Marines provide some heavy support with their huge Thunderhawk Gunships and Transporters while facing off against the fighters and bombers of the Tau, Eldar, Orks and Chaos. We’ve also designed a new plastic flying base for the aircraft to use that cleverly shows arcs of fire as well as keeping track of the speed and altitude too. I’ve watched quite a few games now and played a couple during play-testing and I really enjoyed it. Each of the different airforces do have their own ‘character’ and have to be used in quite different ways. Just don’t let an Ork Fighta get up close behind you is all I can say! ‘Aeronautica Imperialis’ should be released later this year and we promise to keep everyone up to date with it’s progress via the Forge World Newsletter.
Well, that sounds REALLY interesting.
I'm not really attracted to BFG, but something like this, Tau ships against Orks... dog-fighting!
Wow!

Somebody knows anything more?

wow, sounds interesting. Aeronautica Imperialis could be to gothic what 40K is to Epic. but this doesn't really belong on the tau boards, does it?

It won't be wide-spread. 1) It uses FW/GW Epic aircraft, which most people don't have. And 2) People spent enough on 40K, they don't want to go into another game.

Well, I don't know... But if I can fly Tau ships... 8)
If still don't, just kick this to the correct spot, it won't hurt!
(I hope).

To impulse:
Man, you don't know my friends!
I started with Fantasy dwarfs, the to mordheim, then to 40k with Tau. And I practically don't play.
Some of my friends have started and sold several armies, and bough the basic boxes of many games, including epic. And that without talking about small points games like Mordheim and Patrol. Some have 5 or 7 bands.

Anyway, I don't need it to be really wide-spread, 7 to 10 guys to play is enough to me

And I suppose if they are going to make a Hardcover big book, they sure are planning to offer the ships in some direct way. If not, they are just not going to be enough business to justify all this.
I sure would love to buy a Tau flying squadron and paint it, even if I'm not going to play. A basic box could be great.

i'm a hard core 40K player, and yet i can still collect LOTR, fantasy and gothic. i dont think it will be wide spread, but it'll have its followers. similar to specialist games.

There are actually quite a few dogfighting miniatures games out there, most based on WW2 planes and such. Having one in the 40k universe sounds fun! I'd heard about this almost a year ago but wasn't sure anything would come of it. I'm certainly glad they decided to go forward!

Yah, I knew about one, called -iirc- Crimson Skies.
Looked interesting, but they discontinued the game some years ago.
It will be really interesting to see what comes from this one.

I played Crimson Skies once. It was alright, but the comp game was a lot better. I would like to see this make it BIG.

I have dime memories of a game they use to play with a triangle on wheels and a stick that was about 6-7 feet tall with elevation markings on it. The model airplane would attach to a wire on a clamp attached to the stick and you would measure the movement from the base and use a very strict rules set to determine pitch and role maneuvers. It was really complicated and you needed a huge unobstructed floor to play on...carpet sucked for it. I never played it but I remember seeing it when I first started gaming in 84 I think? No clue what the name of it was....
