i fidn that with the new rapid fire rules pulse rifles are better. But if you are going to get carbines theres no point sitting on the fence and having 1:4 or somthing becuase hteres hardly any chance of pinning. Either take half or none, personally i have always taken the pulse rifle but it might be interesting to gamble and see how manyreally do pin squads.

pin squad is really cool when 10 immortals are shooting you and you get a lucky shot and he miss the pinning test he cant do anything wiht the unit in his next turn and you can shoot him again and maybe he'll miss another pinning test

pinning units is VERY uselful i agree (especially close combat ones storming toward you!) but i just find that i prefer the extra range to take out units across a 24" no mans land on the first go. I let my pathfiners do the pinning (hopefully!). Also because all the fire warriros are only going to be shooting at one squad theyre only going to have to be taking a maximum of one pinning test, therefore the chances of pinning (especially against marines) is pretty low for the lesser range and lesser rate of fire (24 strg 5 shots at 12"...... invaluuable, forget rauilguns!)

Take drones to pin, jetpacks and their pulse carbs are Twin-linked so they hit almost 60% of the time, high str. means good to wound rolls, do their shootin first then if a unit is pinned use FW and HH sub. rouns to decimate them

pulse carbines can be useful in FW sqauds. pin down the enemy so next turn you can fire a full out rapid fire because they couldn't move. sometimes you have to becareful tho. it can work to there advantage. pinned but thats way better then running off the table. sometimes you dont want to fire the carbines so you can let them run off the table

Pulse rifle...beause good range and i would say range is a Tau's best friend and if u do get close enough to use the carbines i wld say u will be dead within the next turn

yeah but that why drones exist send them pin everyone and kill some enemies and while they're dying shoot on the enemy with all your units !

but remember pulse rifles are rapid fire and if you mix in carbines you still can fire when your on the move and more range then a pulse carbine if your moving forward
