Default My Tau paint scheme

hi

ive finally got round to piainting the tau, and saw the picture on the front of UK WD 318 (dont go kill WD its not the topic. go grump somewhere else) anyway... the pictures now my display pic heres my thoughts on the colour sceme:
undercoat: chaos black
cloth bits:red gore
armour: skull white, over codex grey mixed with red gore (because its god a reddish tinge)
eyes: skull white+blue.
gun handle: black
discy thing at end of gun: burnished gold.

Please give your comments on the scheme itself and the paints im using. ill paint a few testers if i get support to help.

thanks

ignore my post if you're experienced with paints.

painting white on black is ass hard unless you're willing to accept either 20 coats of thin paint or bumps on your finished models with thick paint.

i'd recommend white undercoat, white to top armor, and switch the cloth colour to scab red with brown/black wash to keep contrast against armor colour.

Actually if you want the white to have any depth I'd paint it over black.

Just do as you said, black, then grey, then a lighter grey then white.

I would recomend putting any red in the white though since that will turn it pink.

Unless you want pink firewarriors

There was a good article a few White Dwarfs back on painting white armor. I would suggest using their steps. Basically, start with a black or white undercoat, basecoat with a few thin coats of Fortress Grey, line the armor with Codex Grey and/or Black Ink, and then hit all the armor panels with Skull White.

etancross are you talking about shadowsun (in the big white battlesuit with the drones)? but the other one are black with dark red helmets.

okay thanks fr the painting advice. much appreciated ;D but what do you think of the actual colour scheme (and how would it work on vehicles). also, I reckon it would be a Vior'la sept army as the sept colour is red. any suggestions on how to apply it to vehicles would be ood to (i was thinking either the reverse ( red with white bits) or having it white, with the central ridge red, although that wouldnt make a very camoflage scheme-although white in cities isnt very good either!!

And I don't want pink fire warriors

I like the idea, personally, Im doing a very Star Wars themed army. White Armour, Black between the cracks of armour and as the suits. Then I use the inverting of this theme for my Vespids, Stealthsuits, and my Commander Shadowsun. I sort of use Shadowsun as Darth Vadar! lol, then I put ranks on them just like the clones. White = Private/La, Green = Sergeant/Ui, Red = Lt./Vre, Blue = Capt./El, Yellow = Commander/O.

Yyyyup . . I just thought I'd throw that out there. Plus I use a Chainmail for 13 armour, white for 12-11 armour, and 10 armour uses Catachan Green.

Actually, if you want your models to look top notch, always paint in thin coats. Yes, it takes more time and effort - but the quality will be rememebered long after the time to paint has been forgotten about.

With that said, get four colours that are close to the white you finally want (Grey - lighter grey - lightest grey - white). Use those colors in think coats and you should be fine. I actually use three different colours - they are the Reaper master series paints - you can use either the 9720 or 9721 series Triad paints.

what are you going on about (no offence) ???

the thing is that ill think it will look good on infantry, but not so much on the tanks and suits... does that make sense. i think ill try it out (im not a very good painter so ill do my best).

for stealthsuits i might try a tree with a burst cannon attached: what, its WYSIWYG! as the stealth armour makes it looks like a tree! (or mound of rubble in a cityfight)
