Default Pinning Tests and 'They Shall Know No Fear'

OK, this is a bit of a beginners question.

If I successfully pin a squad of space marines with 'They shall know no fear', are they automatically un-pinned as soon as its there turn, the same way they automatically re-group?

This has the potential to cause a few arguments amongst friends so I would be keen to know your thoughts.

Cheers

Pinning tests are not the same as a leadership test. Thus, They shall no know fear shouldn't work.

pg 32 of the rulebook states 'a pinned unit does not have to take a morale test.' while pg 74 states, 'space marines automaticall pass morale tests.' Thereby atsknf only affects morale and not pinning.

Don't marines have some other thing that makes them practically immune to Pinning tests though?

That would be their high leadership. They can get a good ld 9 with sergeants and termi honors but can do the same with a captain or a master can give the entire army leadership 10. With that they would need to roll 11 or 12 to fail the moral test and be pinned so its not going to happen often.

But if you DON'T get pinned... that means you're not diving for cover from the threat... Shouldn't taking one of those photon grenades or anti-marine-sniper-rounds to the face, ya know... cause more damage?

The pinning effect shows up when said weapon first drops or wounds a guy, but if you don't avoid it...

I'm just picturing those marines NOT digging in to avoid that ordnance barrage and taking more earthshakers in the torso, and wondering who the hell turned godmode on for them...

Yea but if your a marine chances are you just watched the shrapnel and energy bounce harmlessly off your torso or are totally unaffected by seeing one of your own get blown to shreds and instead just go right back to the mater at hand, carying out the mission and of course cleancing the planet of the enemies of the Emperor.

Pinning wears off the next turn anyways, they don't need to automatically rally next turn. Pinning is page 32 in the rules.

And that marine rule is in the rule book, pg 74

Hope that helped,
