I have found that mobile troops that are close to the enemy will want pulse carbines. The ability to move away from your enemy while still laying down str 5 fire is devastating, not to mention the nice ability to pin your enemy.

Pulse rifles should be uses when you need long range support, or are performing the Fish of Fury. Pulse rifles give you the long range puch, or the short reach and even more powerful punch when it isnt necisarry to keep mobile or to pin your enemys

Personally I ALWAYS give my fire warriors pulse rifles, i find they are more versitile.

Rifles always. Carbines should only be taken if you have no more fast attakc slots to put drones into - they make far better use of the carbines. With 18" range, you will be rapid fired unless you jump away, which the warriors can't do.

I run ONLY Carbines.

I use them for fluff purposes, and for the fact that in city fight (which is all I play [or tight terrian]) moving and firing 18", which gives it an effective range of 24 inches, and still fire. Now, The rifle only has 12" firing on the move, or 18 inch effective range. Now in tight quarters, I will always take the extra 6" and pinning over more shots and shorter range.

Oh, and I am an Eldar player at heart, if it aint movin' it aint gonna be in ma army, ya hear? Which is why I refuse to field marker lights, railrilfes or pulse rifles.

Carbines kill correctly, yes.

Pulse Rifles can kill TWICE as correctly. Simple really.

Perhapes, but you get charged next turn for the TWICE as correctly.

I will stick to my carbines, as they are better while moving, and I am a speed freak (pun intended)

I do a squad of both in larger games. For FOF rifles are great bedause of the rapid fire.

Rifles are better when you don't move or have a tank to move you. The rifle is a close range and long range weapon while the carbine is better for medium ranges and tighter areans of fighting. The rifle is a great supporting weapon because of it's 30 inch range. So if you fight with alot of terrain then go with the carbine and open terrain makes the rifle happy.

From what I have gathered, Pulse Rifles are a better choice, because the Tau aren't a close combat race they seem too snipe at long ranges, than engage in a bloddy massacre... not that bloody massacres are bad... the Tau just arnt really set up for close combat.

Both! You have tons of them twinlinked on drones already!

Rifles on your warriors: good range, good power, rapidfire.

Carbines on your drones: We want multiple wounding squads so we can force multiple pinning checks. Vehicle drones and a little squadron here or there take care of that. Furthermore thanks to the drone's mobility its effectively a 24" assault 1 pinning weapon... with slightly better than BS3 accuracy.
