Default Direction for army

to start off, I've just started playing 40k, and choose tau not only because they appealed to me, but i liked the tactical challenge they presented.

after much looking around the site and other I've decided to do a hybrid army but unsure where to go from what i have.

i didn't wish to go strictly static, because id rather do more than sit on my ass. and i don't want to go full mobile either because it doesn't sit well with me not to have at least at least a small amount of guys behind to hold the lines.
but any suggestions in going more one way or the other is welcome.

right now my army consists of
also some of my terminology might be off because i left my codex at a friends.

1 - Crisis Leader(hes an actually a regular crisis suit, but he doubles because i screwed up and plan on getting the real leader soon)
i usually have him equipped with the air busting fragmentation canon and the cyclonic ion blaster for weapons, works well taking out my friends warp spiders and gaunts. also usually have him with the iridium amour and stimulant. and a shield drone when i can afford it.

1 - ethereal helped me tons until my friends killed him and realized i have to take a leadership test to stay afoot usually equip him with a shield drone

3 - stealth suits
haven't got to use these much because of a bad infiltration placement & deep strike(beginners mistakes)

have 2 with regular weapons and one with the melta weapon(cant remember names sorry)

2 - full sets of fire warriors. 1 is always full rifles with 2 gun drones. the other i might toss in an extra one or 2 pulse carbines if they will end up going a bit further up

12 kroots with 1 shaper. surprisingly the extra save i get from the points with the shaper has helped me out dramatically.

1-devilfish with sms- haven't tried the fish maneuver with fire warriors but only found out about it today.

1-hammerhead fitted with rail gun and 2 burst canons(my saviour, but i don't know if i can change between single shot and subumission)

1-sniper drone team(liked the marker light cant wait to pick up some pathfinders

1-broadside (only used once so far. took out a leman russ once but that's about it)

also i would like to know if i could but drones individually. my friend who helped my put some of my models to gether make them all gun drones except one was a marker light. (we play pretty loose rules when it comes to what equipment they have to what is actually used, but id like to be a little more together)

any constructive criticism or a guiding hand on where to go would be great in terms of expansion or weapon adjustment.

with what you have, I would first fill out your steath team.
then get more ralguns, railhead or broadsides as you see fit.
then 8 pathfinders and and 2 more sniper teams.
personally, i love rail rifles and 12 would absolutely own nids and eldar,
but you may pfrefer more lights 9 from snipers still kill much enemy,
so i leave that to you.

Hope I've been of help and Good Hunting comrade.

If I see that set-up on the other side of the table, I know which unit to pay my respects to soonest. If you equip one unit w carbines, give them to both!
(You never know beforehand which of them will get to use the carbines, anyway...)

Otherwise, I'll have to check my current list against yours -there are always things to reconsider.

A search came up with this:
http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefr...3008&orignav=9

8/7/2006

for the UK, I guess Canada will be the same time.

As a Stealth Lover...I higly recomend finishing the stealth off to 6...possibly to 12!

A hammerhead will prove to be useful in every game. After getting your stealth, get a Hammerhead.

After that, it might be nice to get a Devilfish or two to transport your firewarriors.

i like kroots, get some more kroots as they have a tad little better weapons skill than fw, for those tough scraps with stronger opponents at h2h combat.

they also look very unorthodox, and rough as anything. and are fun to paint, which i am just finding out myself.
