Default Honor guard

I'm been trying out the following idea in my 2000pt take-all-comers list:

In a hybrid army, using a firebase of one 12FW squad, plus one 12 FW squad of honor guard, with an Ethereal within range of both units for morale.

Yesterday was my first test run of this config, and I was very impressed. The added bonuses of the honor guard appears to be well worth the point increase. While certainly one test run does not establish whether this is, in fact, good or bad, it does give me enough hope to continue to try it out on a few more runs.

Curious if anyone else has run with this type of firebase, and what your opinions of it were.

Did it once and it is rather a gamble. Alot of templates goes towards the honour guards. If Mr.ethereal dies, he will have the penalyies always associated with his death.

They are rather expensive in points but somehow they are one of the only ways to use mr.ethereal.

I'm curious why people find them expensive. I don't have the book in front of me, but as I recall they are 2pts more per FW, not bad to me.

They're expensive not because of the two points (for ten units 20p) but also the Ethereal who's benefits don't outweigh the costs. Effectively you have a squad that's 70p more expensive and could gain a similar bonus from one markerlight hit.

Making the unit fearless is cool, but not for that many points.

That's the reason why. If you are going mech tau with them, they get even more expensive.

yes,but i gave the honour guard a markerdrone.yes it's expensive, but hit and wound with ease!!!!

But then, the oppenet would realize that they are too effective and run away. Then the HG would become quite useless.

Static firewarriors get templated often in my experience thats not new. And if they get a template shot at them templates do scatter and you can spread out. Plus that battle cannon isnt insta killing suits either.

If I didnt already have 2 HQs I might be tempted to give honor guard a try. As is I dont think I will for a while at least.
