Add some gear to the Crisis Suits so that they're legal, for one...

Only if you don't know how to use them, or play on boards with no terrain (woods, particularly). I use Kroot in an Eldar army because of how usefull they are!

yeah, i generally play large minimum terrain boards where i can make full use of my range and firepower without too much need for expensive customizations (points wise). i just keep a small kroot squad in handy to take some fire while i get where i need. anyhow, you could make use of some more suits of any kind.

check out the codex when reffering to tau battlesuits. they need to fill all three of their hardpoints to be legal. that normally means either 2 weapons or a twin linked weapon, and a support sytem. that will take your army up a few points. you also need a crisis commander, as it is a 1+ option. making one of your crisis suits into a commander will take up some more points.

from there you can really branch out in any direction. it depends on how you want to play. broadsides may not be nesisary in these low point levels, then again you might love them. check out the codex and just think about how you want to play, and then we can recomend what to buy next better.

Hammerheads are a must. although their railgun is not twinllinked, but they have the submunitions and also more mobile and quite tough to kill.
