Default TL + target array -- too much?

I tend to roll like crap. Or at least, that's sure how seems. Whether it's perception, or reality, I've come to distrust my crisis suits' ability to hit when I need them to. I've been toying with the notion of going twin-linked + target array on one crisis unit. This, by my poor math skills, makes the chance of missing roughly 10% per shot.

Anyone ever done this? Think there is any value in having one crisis team that you can virtually bank on hitting what they shoot at? Or am I going overkill and trying too much to plan for the worst?

well if it is a normal weapon like a missle pod then the urgency isnt as great as if your using Fusion Blasters to kill a tanks back armour.

It's a good idea. TL missiles + TA is popular. Same setup with plasma is occasionally taken. Fusioneers might take this setup, though it means they can't take a shield gen.

Yup, its a great way to get reliability, which I want from my CS's, I'll be using one suit with TL-PR's and a TA, and since I don't use many suits, haveing them actually do damage is critical. Your estimate is pretty good, IIRC, the exact chance is that they will hit 8/9.

Mathammer wise, it's probably best to go with one or the other. Whether or not taking both TL weapons and a TA is overkill is a matter of opinion though.

Statistically, here are the hit percentages:
583.33%97.22%Shas'o, Markerlight

Assuming it's a BS3 model, Twin Linking gives a 25% boost in accuracy. Taking a Targetting Array only gives a 16% boost in accuracy. Taking both TL weapons and a TA gives a 38% boost - the TA adding an extra ~14% to the 25% that TL adds. When you take into account the cost of twin-linking - half the cost of the weapon, it's much cheaper and point-efficient. The most expensive weapon to TL is the Plasma Rifle, with the twin-linked option costing just as much as a Targeting Array, whilst also being more effective.

But going back into the real world, a TL+TA suit would still be very effective and reliable.

At the moment, I'm sticking to TL'ing normally, though I'll have to try out TA Deathrains

Otherwise I'm leaving the TA's to Shas'el Commanders (to make them a Shas'O Equivalent)...

Thanks for all the replies folks. Good to know I'm not completely mad. I'm going to run this in a couple test games, see how it does.

It sucks missing...I know. So if you take TL and TA...there is a 10% chance of missing. You might not have 2 weapons like you want...but really think about it.

IF you took a fireknife...1 plasma would hit, and 1 Missle Pod would hit on average, Now depending on what you wanted to do... you might want both MP to hit or both PR to hit.

If you want to kill some termies.... then use TLPR.

Kill tanks....TLMP. Plus with TLMP you can take full advantage of the Jump Shhot Jump at a long range!

A hah I think I just found the system to fill my deathrains 3rd hard point. The Targeting Array is probably my favorite new addition to the codex Im using it on almost all of my battlesuits now.

No,i don't think that TA + T-Linking is overkill. In my current list i'm running a Monat with TL-FB,TA.He is VERY reliable and efficient and he only costs 53 pts.
