Default Suit numbers: Explanation

When looking at the codex, mainly the suits I (like everyone else) read the part where it says "2 is an indication of the suit's mass" (more or less) it also says that the second 2 means it is being tested. Now I started to play with these numbers (using broadside and crisis in this theory)

Height
XV1 --> Tau --> about 1m60 (guess)
XV2 --> 1.125 x Tau --> 1m80
...
XV8 --> 1.875 x Tau --> 3m

Now this is based on the pictures we have of Tau and Crisis and Tau and new Stealth's together.

Weight
XV1 --> Tau --> about 50kg
XV2 --> Stealth --> 200 kg (moving with help of an exo-skeleton I hope ;D)
...
XV8 --> Cisis --> 1100 kg

This was total guess work, altough I assumed that a Crisis wouldn't weight more then an APC. I even assumed it wouldn't weigh that much more then a car. It has to fly right? Can't see thing of 70 tons do a JSJ manoeuvre.

Now for the second numbers:

classfunctionproduction (exponential)

XV.1labtest/drawingboard
1

XV.2field tests
2

XV.3new suit (commander only)
3

XV.4regular production (Shas'vre and up)
4

XV.5small mass production (maybe teamleaders/monat and up)
5

XV.6mass production
6

XV.7HW support systems
5

XV.8adapted version (like Broadside)
4

XV.9Special version (for all your unique conversions ;D)
1

This in normal numbres would mean:
XV.1 = 100
XV.6 = 100[sup]6[/sup] = 1 000 000 000 000 or 1 (1 step higher than trillion)
XV.8 = 100[sup]4[/sup] = 100 000 000 or 100 million

This is just on this scale, it could even be higher the production amount.

Numbers ... It's fun playing with numbers (yes I love math ;D)

"2" usually means experimental. Not weight on suits.

Gundams are over 80. tons in Gundam Seed/Destiny, And somehow they are 7 Tons in Gundam Wing.

But lets get back on the topic.

Good theory. But look at the Forgeworld site. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog...TTLESUITS.html
On the Tau battlesuits section you can find the XV81Crisis, theXV84 Crisis and the XV89Crisis. They're all commander battlesuits. But, following your theory, they should be all variations of the XV83 (commander only). The XV81 isn't a Crisis labtest, the XV84 isn't a regular production Crisis and the XV89 can be considered a special version , but only for commanders.
Anyway, I think you're right about the first number being the indication of the suit's mass

Uh...APCs are in the 15-25 ton range (with the low end being pure toop carriers, like a rhino, and the high end being infantry fighting vehicles, like a razorback or chimera)...70 is a main battle tank! On the other hand, cars don't get much over 2 tons. I think 10-15 is about right for a crisis suit...so you're probably right, inbetween the weight of a car an an APC.

Anyway, good theories. It's always interesting to read fresh ideas, even if some can't resist pointing out flaws. Turning things over and puzzling out how they work is a good thing!

According to IA3, the Crisis weighs 2.5 tons (metric, I would assume). The Broadside weighs 3.8 tons.

I would guess that the second number addresses function.

X1 - Missile Variant / mixed fire support?
X2 - Prototype
X3
X4 - Markerlight / scout?
X5 - Stealth
X6
X7 -
X8 - Heavy Support
X9 - Focus on armor?

That light? I always knew they were carbon fibre! (I don't use metallic paints at all for my tau)

It seemed light to me, too. I guess they are just using very lightweight materials. For reference, the Devilfish weighs in at about 25 tons.
