Default Starting a Tau army

You may or may not have guessed from the title that I'm going to start a tau army (incidentally my first 40k army) hopefully around 1000 points ;D

Any way I would like to know what i should get (a battleforce i know but what after? )

Also Since i live in Australia (Adelaide) I was wondering where i could get the models cheaper otherwise I'm going to have to pay a lot more than if i bought them in America even AFTER you take into account the conversion rates :P

I'd say a skyray. It has the parts to make either a Devilfish, Hammerhead, or the Skyray, And/or another squad of Fire Warriors.

Well, you need a Commander unit, so get one of them.

After that, it really depends on how you want to play and who you play against. But, for some good all-rounders, I'd suggest more Fire Warriors, a Hammerhead, and some Pathfinders, in that order.

Try E-Bay for some great cheap deals, you really do save alot of money!

As for where...find your local games shop/hobby center...there are a few listed in the White Dwarf magazine...or you can order through Games Workshop, either online or get an order form from White Dwarf.
and yes of course, I forgot about E-bay
Hope that helps

Hi Solourus from a fellow Aussie.

These two british online stores offer discounts and free!! shipping anywhere, but there are fairly high miniumum order sizes:

The commander model comes with all the special issue systems. Its a regular XV8 otherwise, but that's to my knowledge the only place to get the Airburst Fragmentation projector, and of course the lovable Cyclic Ion blaster. Oh, and the C&C node, think the positional relay was in there too...

You can use a regular XV8 if you don't want to use these though (convert yourself something into a CIB in that case).

Be careful when buying off Ebay. There are some new "tricks" you should know about...

1) I'm selling a squad of 6 firewarriors (even thought the picture shows 12). That happened to me and I wasn't too thrilled about it.
2) Check the shipping. Oh sure - you won the firewarriors for $25.00 - but now tack on the 6.00 for shipping. You can go to almost any LGS and get 10% off of retail on GW.

Don't forget that you'll need a rulebook and codex too.
