Default Tetra's: Anyone have/use them?

I've been interested in taking Tetra's instead of Pathfinders to a tournament setting where they can be use. I'm assuming they're about 50 points each, so I can take 2 squadrons of 2 and still have about the same ammount of markerlight hits as my current unit, and I believe they are T/L, with a possible Targeting Array. Also, anybody have any of the models... I was wondering if I should just convert them from Pirahna's or buy them strait from FW.

Tetras are not allowed in GW tournies, nor at my local hobby shop. I would say take the Pathfinders, as they are cheaper and you can transform their Devilfish into a Warfish (SMS instead of Gun Drones) to compensate for the point loss there. Pathfinders, IMO, are the only "efficient" way to take Markerlights, even more efficient than Tetras IMO.

They are, however, allowed at AdeptiCon, which I plan on taking them.

Also, I am a very die hard Mech fan, and the only way I could really Pathfinders working is when they are in their Tetras, as they can keep up with the extremely fast and mobile mechanized Tau forces, which I have.

4 very mobile Tetra markerlights, at BS 4: ~200 points.

8 somewhat static BS3 Markerlights: ~200 points.

Decisions, decisions...

What is a Tetra? Is it a ForgeWorld model?

I love them. Currently in my (mech) army I have everything possible to allow them to still be mech. They work great in squads of 1-3. 1 works because if one is not allowed to move than you can still move w/o loosing them. 2-3 just has more fire (marker) power.

The scout ability to move before the game like pathfinders helps incredibly! The carbines can actually be of some use now (pinning) with the new rules of lowering LD.

These also are my favorite models in my army as no other tau player (there are alot!) in my area has them and I stand out alot to their static or hybrid playing style.

I do think you can accomplish your conversion, but you have to do a whole lot of converting. If you have the cash to accually buy them do so. For me (being in the US) the set of 2 cost $54 and the total (of 4) was $108 (christmas special had freeshipping).

Whatever you choose to do good luck and have fun 'lighting things up!'

Here's the link to the forge world web direct to the pic of tetras

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/tetra.htm

It's basically a scout tank with a markerlight and TL pulse rifles. Great unit because it's a mobile 'light.

It says it is copyrighted from GW. Does that mean GW manufactures it or will in the future?

It does look pretty sweet...

Forge World is GW. The difference between the two is very confusing. The short of it is that Forge World models are allowed in slightly less places than GW models, and generally require opponent's permissions.

I really love the models. Anyways, ask yourself how much markerlight support you need. I find that with an increased BS a Tetra can be just as effective as Pathfinders. The mobility is also key. If you're looking for more volume of shots PFs are the way to go but if you're looking for a fast, slighty more survivable unit (very slight) than go Tetra. And if you're a big mech fan just get 'em!
