Default Is it Mech? Is it Static? No, IT'S HYBRID! - Mothman's Guide to Hybrid!

Firepower meets Mobility, and it is love at first sight!

Hybrid, a background

Ah the forging of firepower and mobility, when they meet in perfect unison, the result is a very tactically fexable list that can deal with nearly any threat.
Upside:
Hybrid combines the two major playing styles into one. This allows us to succsessfully use tactics from other two play stlyes (go here for a list of the common tactics) together.
Drawbacks:
This type of army often suffers from a the 'Jack of all trades, master of none' syndrome. Though this are can pull of the tactics of both Mech and Static, it does not specialize in either area, and as such the list will likely try to do too much, and will fail.

How to Avoid 'Over Stretching, and Over Specialization'
Well, first thing's first. You must pick what are you will foucs more on, Static, or Mech. If you try to do it evenly, it will not work the way it sould.
I also do not recomend MEQ Specialization, as this will lead to an extremely low model count, and Ork and Guard players will have your blue butts for it!

Balance is the key
There are several main parts to an army. They are covered in the Guide to Tau . For a hybrid army I suggest that you focus on - Shredders, Anti-Light Tank, and Anti-light Tank, and assign who does what best for each. For example, Broadsides are clearly the best at popping Tanks, but the Ionhead is clearly the best at light anti-tank. See where I am going with this?

Tactics

Static Tank army - We all know (and love) the Warfish. Now how can we factor this amazing piece of tech into our Hybrid Army? The Warfish drop! Double the bang for your buck!.
Buy the Warfish for a unit of your Firewarriors, then first turn drop the Fire Warriors in a line, and use the Warfish to push forward. I love doing this, as people tend to over look the warfish, till they see this tactic in play.

I am sorry for the incompleteness, but I will finisher later, till then, the Mothman
