So, tis a 2000pt game, I get first turn. I have two units of stealth suits infiltrated to 18" of the enemy unit. Full unit if guardians with a bright lance and a warlock. Lighted them up with markerlights from my pathfinders, got six, boosted all of the stealths to BS5. 36 shots, 32 hits, 28 dead! 28!
Now, it took 500ish points of my army to kill maybe 250, but the morale and destruction caused my opponent to quit after their turn ( they did pretty much nothing). These markerlights rocked! (OK the pathfinders were proxied wood elf archers... but still). These things are dynamite, I never had enough points for them before, having only just got my new 2nd incarnation of Tau up to 2000, but dear god, this was devastating. His whole flank was annihilated, it was amazing! Anyone else had some really good experiences like this?

They way I hear it goes is that after the first time your pathfinders will turn into one expensive and quite fragile top priority target...

Yes that does happen with pathfinders. Once people see how effective they are they become a top priority target. You can use this to your advantage but it will probably mean a lot of dead pathfinders.
However its not hard to collapse a flank on turn 1. Ive done it before. Dropped a submunition on a squad of Inducted Storm Troopers a Daemonhunter player was using to hold the flank. Killed 9 out of 10 and the sergeant ran off the board. Another time I dropped two submunitions on a tactical squad killing 7 and the other 3 fell back far enough to be out of the game till the rest of his army was dead and then it was simply a matter of gunning them down. |

My opinion at the moment (and probably that of my last opponent
) is that the Markerlight has become the most dangerous weapon in the Tau armory in 4th edition. Pathfinders are back with a vengeance.

Hey Forbidden,
sorry to bust your bubble, but what you did was illegal :-\. I'm going to assume what you did was move up your pathfinders as scouts, and disembarked them from their fish, right? One problem, the old codex said that their scout move included diembarkment, but the new dex' does not... I know very disapointing, I already made this mistake. Back to my point, if you couldn't disembark them on their scout move then when you disembarked them on your first turn they couldn't shoot cuz ml are heavy. See my point? Blender

You disembark on your moving phase correct? scout allows you to make a move. Dont be a rule lawyer.

hmm... *looks at old codex*... *looks at new codex*... *looks at rulebook*
Actually yes they can. In the old codex the scout rule was written in the profile, in the new codex it says they are scouts. Looking at the scout rule in the rulebook it says that normal movement rules apply to their scout move. That means the transport can move forward up to 12" and they can then disembark. As this happens before turn 1 they count as stationary on turn 1 and can fire their heavy weapons if they so desire. |

I was going to say the same thing... then you did it for me!
I depend on that tactic. Pathfinders depend on it. Don't rule lawyer it away you, daemon!

I think I'll start throwing together a good Pathfinder team after hearing this. I was just gonna' use one or two team leaders to do all the marking, but the new rules for the markerlight make the Pathfinders total killers.
Who wants BS-5?! ;D

Well, in my game against Orks on Sunday, I fired my 4 MLs in my PF squad, and they all hit, but then became void when the 2 Rail Rifles both hit the battlewagon (I think that's what it was) and a penetrating hit annihilated it! Took out a few Orks, too. Then the next turn the PFs, thier drones and the Stealths nearby wiped out the rest of the boyz along with my Shas'O (go BC and Missle Pods!) and left the Warboss running away with 1 wound left! Tau'Va, suckas!
