I was thinking about what it would be like to live in Tau socity, and I was wondering, how are Tau educated? Are they all educated by lower ranking Aun, or are specialized teachers brought from the Fio or Por, or are the young Tau tought by their parents, or is education done by specialised teachers from their own cast?
And that brings up another question: are Tau told specificaly what kind of job they go into, or does a younf Fio get to decide if he'd rather go into agracultural work or industrial work? double-post fixed - Khanaris

I imagine they learn in every field, but take the current day equivilent of career high schools as their caste dictates. The teachers there would be experienced veterens in the craft.
Aun school teachers would be interesting. Unquestioning obedience from your students... I know some teachers who'd like that.

I'd say the most probable answer would be a teacher from whichever caste they are born into. And then after they recieve their "basic training" they choose a field that they wish to "major" in and then learn in a hands on environment from an older tutor/ personal instructor in the same field.
...and try not to double-post. There's a modify button up in the right corner of your posts. |

An apprenticeship is usually very efficient. Plenty of hands-on experience, and ensures that the teacher's knowledge is passed on more thoroughly than it would if teaching a class. The most tedious stuff is most likely performed by robotics.
Just through averages, if you make any form of job available to anyone in the caste, someone WILL take an interest. Its just a matter of getting would-be student and teacher together. Of course, that tends not to work as well if you're running with a bloated self-sustaining gargantuan bureaucracy or "service industry", since that will lead to public schools (or worse yet private ones too) |

I think that Shas, Fio and Por Tau have a basic learning (like our schools) where they learn maths, language, sciences, and so on... teached by Fio and Por teachers (Fio for the sciences ones and Por for the social ones). Then they arrive to specific oriented places, Shas to military academies, and Por and Fio to universities (much like we have now). The Kor are teached in a similar way, but in their orbital stations. And the Aun are teached only by the Aun.

I doubt that Tau would learn anything not important to their caste. At least not as part of a curriculum. Shas would be tought everything nesscesary to fight, maintain their weapons, follow orders, and such, but not how to write poetry. If Tau actually do have art, music, poetry, etc (I personally have my doubts that they do, as they get all their pleasure out of service) then they probably learn it during their free time.

The Tau have an entire sept dedicated to art! In fact, it's more likely that Shas students study art than most other non-military subjects. In Japan, the Samurai (another warrior class) were taught poetry, calligraphy, and flower arranging. It was felt that if you know how to properly arrange flowers in a pot, you could properly arrange troops on a field. I'm willing to bet that Shas students learn tactics, history, math, and art in addition to their martial training.

I imagine Puretide's stuff would be a key part of the Shas curriculum too.

Sure there are mentions of didactic teaching (if that is the correct term), the Tau are unlikely to have a great deal of the sitting in a class learning things style of teaching, rather the knowledge directly written onto their brains during sleep (or an induced coma due to the small amount of sleep they need, at 'school' they may just be in a pod sleeping whilst hooked up to wires). If so, its likely that their penal system is on the same lines as well (re-education centres etc).
The various Acadamies the castes run are probably more focused on the more situation lessons like tactics, first contact, surveying and research etc. |

I agree with everyone here.
To add, The Tau must have artwork, becasue a socsity with out pretty things to look at will fail. Everyone needs some way to escape their lives from time to time. On the teaching topic, they would likely be taught a little of the work of each caste, so in times of need a fire Warrior could negotiate with something other than a plasma 'bullet'. Then they would be sent to train with the masters of thier race. retired O's are what I think would teach the four normal castes. I bet the Aun get taught the same way, just so they can do every thing that their 'slaves' can do. (I know the Tau arnt slaves, but if you think about it...)
