Given that array of "usual suspects", I'd say ABSOLUTELY!!!

But do some playtesting with a proxy model and see for yourself. But given that you seem to face tons of power armor and tanks, I'd say that a pair of fusion blasters is just the thing you need...

shadow sun is definitely worth it.
you can either use her to give a leadership bonus to nearby troops for target priority tests, or send her out to kill some armour!

it seems shes only good at killing tanks...dont we have enough choices for tank hunting as it is? sure, having to fusion blasters is great, i guess. but you gotta get real close to use them on SM infantry and that means they can rapid fire back, if not assault! besides, she can shoot at two different targets for each fusion...that means she is meant to plop down next to two tanks and nuke them both. Well, thats great, but i would expect a little bit more from a special character. just my opinion though...

She is okay, but not really worth it.. 2 12" anti tank guns that can shoot two differnet target. Only a fool would position their tanks close enough that she could shoot both of them.

She is next to useless against monoliths. For the points, I'd rather take 2 or 3 crisis suits with fusion and missile pods for anti tank.

she has a jetpack though, so it would be hard for them to assault or rapid fire you if you did ranges right.

12" to shoot
18" with jump

rapid fire and charge range on basic troops are 12", so you would be out of range. granted, they could still shoot you normally.

But the enemy could just move forwards 6" in their movement phase and rapid fire at her.

Shadowsun has extremely short range which means anything she fires at will probably be able to shoot her next turn even with her stealth field.

To be worth it, you have to be making use of her other abilities. Do you find you need to take many target priority or panic tests ? Do you play a style of army where the majority stays near each other (so they can be within her 18" ability range) ?

What I think is that if you try to make use of her special leadership abilities, she's stuck sitting with a firebase not shooting much. For her pts you could get so much stuff, a cheap shas'el that has two weapons hitting on 2+ is around 90-100 pts. You can take the C&C Node if you're worried about target priority tests, or an etheral if you're worried about lots of panic tests.

I think she's worth a try out, but I won't be taking her to a tournament anytime soon.

considering in the old codex I use to take an ethereal just for his ability to allow ld rerolls, now that GW has "neutered" the ethereal I find that shadowsun makes an interesting replacement. sure she has to be within range for the other units to use her leadership, but at least if she dies the rest of the army doesn't panic and run away. plus with the stealth field, shield generator, and two sheild drones she has a good chance of surviving a lot of firepower. and if you keep her near the back with any static units (fire warriors not in devilfish, broadsides etc...) she can help to take out any enemy units that get too close to your fire base. she is probably the only really mobile tau model that I will take, but won't use that mobility to much.

I like her (no not in that way : ). She has massive protection (3+ save, Shield Drones, JSJ, Stealth) and could potentially lay to waste 2 Land Raiders in one turn, or instant kill 2 Space Marine biggies in one turn. And her leadership drone and coolness adds to it. She is the best Tau special character IMO, but I haven't playtested any of them so I don't have the greatest knowledge on them.
