Default Question about shield generators

I was playing a game the other day when one of my SG equipped suits was taken down by regular bolter fire. My opponent asked why I used the 4+ invuln, instead of the regular 3+ save. I checked the dex & nowhere does it say that the invuln save can be taken INSTEAD of the regular save, but both my opponent & the proprietor of the store (who is of course a huge 40k player) said that it can be taken instead of the regular save.

I've sent an e-mail to roolzboys, but have received no response (their email is roolzboys@games-workshop.com, correct??) & was wondering if any of you have clarification on the subject.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Invulnerable isn't armor... so you take the best of the two.

If the weapon wasn't strong/special enough to ignore your armor... there's no reason to use the invulnerable save. When the really nasty things come out to target you, you get to bring it out to play, rather than ending up as a pathetic whimpering ball in the corner from the loss.

you take armour saves as normal. if you don't get one(ie. power weapons or low AP weapons)then you may take invunerable saves if you have one

Because the rule is in the main rulebook - page 25, bottom half of second column - "More than one save".

You yourself can decide what save to use, whether it be armour, invulnerable, or cover. You can only use one, and note that each save can be defeated by certain things, such as AP, special rules, or template weapons respectively. Against a bolter shot - you're better off taking the 3+ save, as the armour save isn't negated by the bolter AP, and it's better than the invulnerable save.

This is just to let you know, the roolzboyz won't answer e-mails anymore. Games Workshop believe that a telephone call is quicker, cleaner and more efficient than an e-mail.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff?
Fast and excellent service?

Ever time I've called the GW Trollz they've always been very good at what they do and they've answered my questions quickly.

Even when they've given me an answer I didn't want to hear (Banshees CAN scream into combat ) I've still been glad that they were and are a valuable resource.
