OK, I was perusing my rulebook again the other day and I'm a little perplexed in regards to wording and how people are using the skimmer glancing rule.
From my readings, I understand the rule as such: A skimmer that moves over 6" can only be glanced (no penetrating). Also from my reading a non-fast skimmer (most the Tau ones), can fire 1 Main and all defensive weapons if moved less than 6" and NO weapons if 6" to 12". So what am I missing? How do the Tau vehicles take advantage of the skimmer rule and still shoot? Thanks in advance. ??? |

They have a peice of equipment that allows them to fire as a fast vehicle, so they can move 6-12" and still fire their weapons.
Its an optional extra.

There's a piece of Vehicle wargear that allows the tank to fire all three weapons even after moving more than 6 inches...
I don't have my codex on hand, and I can't remember exactly what its called. EDIT: gaah, Rechar beat me to it... curse this slow modem. The All-father protects... ...From penetrating hits. |

It's the Multi-tracker, enabling a vehicle to fire as if it were a fast vehicle.

Its called a multi-tracker, and it allows you to fire AS IF you were moving as a fast vehicle. Therefore you can shoot whilst moving up to 12", but still cant move if you move 12"-24" (which of course only piranhas can do, and they're fast vehicles anyway)

The target lock lets you fire on a different target then the rest of your squad. Any fast skimmer that has moved 12" or less can fire all weapons, including heavy weapons.

The correct phrasing of the Tau skimmer strength:
"And they shall know no penetrating hits!" |

Hmm....deathly powers of protection....AND blow the frack out of the opponent?
talk about back-dooring a disadvantage, seems like half of these support systems are made just to undermine disadvantages that the tau have in the game system at the cost of a few extra points.... seems like paying to cheat to me...(why am i complaining if I own 2 of these frackin things?) But yes, firing and moving all your movement is quite the advantage, my actual beef is why don't they just count it as fast (the Eldar can do it, we certainly should be able too!) |
