1. if you want very fast, mobile tank hunters then yes

2. i would say 1-2 in a squad

3. targetting array

4. no

5. fusion blasters

but thats just me...

That depends: As tank hunters they can be good with the correct use of cover. They are also pretty nifty as flankers, with burst cannons light infantry can fall hard to this little fish.

How many points do you have and what is their role. Problem with larger units is if 1 gets immobilised, you've got to abandon it basically to retain mobility. Perhaps 3 in a unit. Thats 15 S5 AP5 shots a turn with burst cannons, or you can fusion 3 tanks in the rear while the drones work on support, pinning surrounding enemies in place for you to hit an run.

Well, I suggest decoy launchers (must) and if you can spare 15 points a targetting array.

They can't be equipped with marerlights (those are the FW tetras) however they can use markerlight tokens of other markerlights like any other Tau unit can

For tanks or heavy armour hunting - perhaps the odd carnosaur etc. then fusion blaster, however if you want them as flank harassers of light infantry then burst cannons - 15 shots remember, 6 of which pin.

They seem really really expensive to me...

How exactly do you go about abandoning an immobilised vehicle anyways? "kill it off" so the rest can keep coherency and leave?

Or is it just 'team' in that they just count as a single choice?

isn't an immobilized skimmer automatically destroyed?

I think that the piranha is very much worth it, and I would buy five total. take one unit of three with burst cannons for enemy infantry, and one unit of two with the fusion blaster for tank hunting.

Only if it moves more than 6". However, due to the nature of the Piranhas, they would usually be destroyed having moved 24".

It depends, you need to have good tactics for them, as their armour isn't nearly as thick, and bulky as the hammerhead's, but if you can manage this they can be the bane of tanks, and lightly armoured infantry.

Quote:
2. how many should i take?
3-4 in a squad, this is the average number, and can cause a lot of damage to lightly armoured infantry, and tanks.

Quote:
3. what up grades should i give them?

A targetting array as their BS is only average, a disruption pod to protect themselves against weapons.

Quote:
4. do they use marker lights?
No, they do not carry markerlights.

Quote:
5. should they have fusion blasters or birst cannons?
It depends on what you think they will encounter the most. If they're encountering lightly amoured infantry then the burst cannons, vehicles then fusion blasters, and if both do a mix. However, you might want to try proxying, as this always helps in picking your weapons, and upgrades.

ok then,
if i choose 5 of them, would they become more of a target? and what would happen if one of them got imobalised?

should i give them birrst cannons becasue the are fast moving, have light armour and the main target would most likey be large troop squads that coundn't destroy them or give them fussion blasters to take out heavy uints like HQ's, tanks and other tanked up units like termyies? but if i do take them their gun is still short range and if i attack a HQ, i'll be in combat range as well be an esey target?

when i 1st started thinking, i was gona give them 2 seekers, target aray and target lock's..... is this a good idea? or should i give them somthing compleatly diffrent ???

ok then, can u help me from here ???

I though instead of making a new thread I would ask my question here. I usually play against Nids. I am going to buy a Piranha either way so my question is this. What would you guys pick against Nids The Fusion Blaster or The Burst Cannon? I am torn between them. If I do opt for the BC of course at a later date I will buy some more. Oh and wernejo I think a unit of 5 Piranha's will attract some unwanted attention.

i will tell you what i did
1. should i get them
yes
2. how many should i take
i got 6, 2 teams of 3
3. what up grades should i give them
targetting array/decoy/disruption/SEEKERS!-some of those
4. do they use marker lights
no, but can benefit from them-see bottom
5. should they have fusion blasters or burst cannons
im doing 3x fusions 3x burst cannons, 2 seperate squadrons

once they reach behind enemy lines and once a vehicle is "lit" the pirahna should have the correct angle to have the seeker hit the rear armor, or at LEAST the side
