Default Standard FoC and the Devilfish question.

Recently I went and shuffled things around my 1,000pt list which resulted in the removal of my kroot unit.
In the middle of a game vs. my friend, I realized that without the kroot, I was left without a second troop selection, and now I need to fix that.

Ive heard somewhere on the forum about the DF now being able to be on its own, I just cant find it anymore. (Try looking up devilfish on a Tau forum  )
So is there a way I can now have the following:

1HQ: XV8
----
1st Troop: Firewarrior Unit
2nd Troop: Devilfish

Thanks-

No.

Let me say that again: no

The Devilfish is a point costing option for a preexisting squad. It does not take up an FoC. HOWEVER! The upgrade comes onto the table at the same time as the rest of the unit, but has no need to maintain coherency.

no. it says in the codex that the squad numbers from 10-20 kroot carnivores and 0-12 hounds

anyway a squad of 6 FWs would be cheaper

Read the codex. Failing that, see our FAQ thread stickied at the top of this board.. and this post [link] for the "Devilfish IS a Dedicated Transport".

my question would be more along the lines of why are you trying to min your troop selection? both the kroot and the tau firewarriors are to good not to run full sized units in your army.

Yeh I read the codex and found nothing on the DF being a non-dedicated transport, that's why I posted here, just 'cuz a while ago i ran into that thread Mace posted so was wondering if anyone had found any loopholes or anything. SO answer is Nope~ Forget about it-

And i took the kroot out because I simply wanted to try out piranhas, and did not want to spend too long modifying my list. It was only a friendly game and I just wanted to proxy them, try them, and see if I should buy them. (which I did 2 hours ago ;D 3 for 70$ cnd. deal)

..So for the rest of that night, for the piranha testing games, I had to split my firewarriors into 2 squads of 6, one squad in the DF, the other became a static team w/ markerlight, just to make my list legal and keep playing without whipping out the calculator :funny:

yea, a devilfish is an upgrade for the firewarriors.

for example, wargear on a Shas'O does not make it take up more HQ choices, and as such a devilfish does not take up its own troop organization slot.
