Sell it if you want to make conversion, it's way easier with new stuff.

Well, conversions.........well didn't think about that. But still you can still use the old models and buy new ones to convert.

Wanax,

Personally, I would simply strip and repaint. I say this as someone who does this often though, to multiple armies. I enjoy "upgrading" the look of an army as the years go by. Many times, it helps refreshen it without even adding to it, or making more purchases. Having new models is fun too, but it does involve things such as putting the models together, going through more bad molds, re-shaving each and every model, positioning, gluing, etc. And of course, the first time you break one of your new models, is not like when you break one of your old models, which you've already repaired once or twice. Either way, they both have advantages and disadvantages, but I think keeping what you have and simply repainting them has more advantages in the long run (unless you want to help someone start Tau fast for 1/2 the price....).

So here's what I'd say:

* If the army is painted and varnished (matte or gloss finish): Sell it. Stripping varnish can be very hard.
* If you want to rebuild the army differently than it currently is: Sell it. Buying new models is the only way.
* If you want to keep the current setup of your army and just change it's look: Keep it. Re-paint.

Anyhow, maybe my conservative nature makes me say it--but I'd keep the old army and simply refresh it. Throwing it out and getting more only fuels the machine and ends up costing you more money in the long run.

And just to give you an idea (if this is your first time perhaps?):

Old XV8's (9x) stripped and repainted to look like this & this.
Old FW's (36x) stripped and repainted to look like this.
Old Stealths stripped and repainted to look like this.

Anyhow, the same with my vehicles, etc, but you get the point. Stripping & repainting can be fun. I've redone my Tau three times now as my taste in style and battles change. In the long run, it's cheaper to spend a little bit of cash and repaint the old rather than it is to re-buy, re-glue & re-paint.

But whatever suits you

Cheers!

Thanks. I'm torn mainly becaue I really like the look of some parts of my army. However the old scheme will not fit with the new one at all. And the new scheme is much more Tau-ish IMO.

All of my Bob Force are repainted from really crappy UltraSM the previous owner did.

Anyway, thanks for the input. I'm still undecided :-\

I'm stripping my Tau down from the black, red, and gold scheme I had. I've been using methanol and a toothbrush, since anything stronger might attack the plastic. I'm having decent results. Regarding conversion, the methanol seems to weaken the glue, and some of my models are falling apart, so some simple conversions might be easy.

I'm thinking of using some of the Black Templar painting tips on the GW site...

Do your tau a refit like you did on all the models I have seen you refitting from junk>

Do a 'Pimp My Tau' on them.

Yes, I've done a few repaints. I guess I'm just hessitant about all the work of 50+ infantry and 8 suits and 3 vehicles. That is a couple of months just preparing them and converting them for painting. :-\ :P

Well, one thing at a time. They will finish, but take your time.
