Default Heavy weapons (Markerlights) and movement question

Hi all

If you use a marker light on a marker drone it cannot move - is this true ?

can the rest of the unit move (maintaining coherency) ?

this came up in a game recently as i have 2 marker drones with a stealth team and they were positioned near a wall as below

s s s
X X S s
---------------

and after shooting i wanted to move them to this position
s
s s s s x x
---------------

Now for me the drones have not moved so should be able to fire markers but my opponent said that he felt that if any in the squad moved then no heavy weapons may fire (we went with him as i am unsure as to the rules and i didn't want to cheat)

so who is right ?

thanks for any help

Wile E

PS i won anyway (the air burst projector and cyclic ion blaster are very effective against guard)

Heavy weapons can only be shot if no one in the unit moves during the movement phase. After staying totally still, you can jetpack backwards.

Are you sure that the Drone can assault move if the rest of the squad can't (warriors), as you only move as fast as the slowest in the squad....

Drones count as whatever they are attatched to. So, if they're attatched to infantry, they're inantry.

[All of what was said above]

- You can't fire heavy weapons if the squad moves - see rulebook
- The squad counts as having moved if ANY model moves. - again, see rulebook
- The squad only moves as fast as the slowest member in the squad.
- Marker drones have the type -as owner. So if taken by infantry, they are infantry and don't get jetpacks/assualt moves. If taken by jetpack equipped models, the unit cannot move for the Marker Drone to use it's markerlight.

All this is in the codex and rulebook.

Hi Mace,

OK lets go with the stealth example. If the unit doesn't move in its movement phase, uses its heavy weapons...... can it still then jump move in the extra assult movement phase?

Cheers

Hello,
After reading this post I think that technically they can use the 6" assault movement provided by its jetpacks.
The movement phase is one, the assault phase is another quite different and has another treatment in the rulebook.
I think.

According to the Tau faq at GW, a jet pack model may take its assault move afer firing a markerlight.

I'm almost positive you can move once you'v fired the markerlight. Unless you wish to fire it again the next turn
