Default Question? Cyclic Ion Blaster Rules..

So I was at Gamesworkshop, checking out the Tau codex as they had it out for viewing but it isn't actually realeased until the 27th where i live. I was checking out The cyclic ionic blaster? I'm not sure if that's what you call it.... but I'm sure you know what I am talking about well it says in the profile of the weapon that on a 6 for wounding it becomes AP 1.... which i thought was really nice because then we can hurt those monstrous creatures more easily now... like wraithlords and carnifexes etc... but one guy in the store said that weapon has to actually be able to wound to be able to hurt the creature in the first place... but most people in their disagreed.... what do you think? I am pretty sure you can wound high toughness creatures with it the only thing that would be able to wound would the 6's to wound though.....

Let me hear your thoughts...

You would not be able to wound a Wraithlord with a CIB. It's Toughness is too high.

but on a roll of 6 when you are wounding...for those who have the codex you can look up the gun and you will find (for those who have it already) that it I am pretty sure says you would be able to wound a wraithlord... just look carefully I am pretty sure you can

Just because you can ignore a targets armour, or turn a glancing hit into a penetrating hit, does not mean you can wound the target or glance in the first place.

A gun with Lasgun strengh would, at best, be able to wound a T6 creature - you cannot inflict a wound on anything bigger, so the AP becomes a moot point.

trust me look under the rules for it and you will find you can..... and this doesn't really have anything do with tanks at all just tough creatures.... I won't say what it says in the codex because then i would get in trouble...

if you can then check out the Eldar codex under Eldar long rifle that should explain it.

yes... tha'ts pretty much like it.... close enough without saying it....
Which i like because let's say you give your commander a plamsa rifle and a CIB then it's good +3 saves and also when you come to hordes the CIB can pump out a lot of shots...

I know what your talking about "Ilikebugguns", theirs a part of the CIB rule that states something like "regardless of toughness" iirc. But by the wording, this addition dosnet mean anything, and was most likely a typo, which was supposed to let the CIB wound anything on a 6.

It's no typo.

In the interests of clarifying this, I shall quote the sentence from the codex (page 26):
Quote:
Any rolls to wound of a 6 count as AP1, regardless of the target's Toughness.
The last sentence suggests that, even if it wouldn't be able to wound in the first place (with it's flashlight Str), it will wound regardless, counting as AP1, on a 6 to wound. Basically it's auto-wound on a 6 (invul. saves allowed though, I would assume). (Thus the mini-rending title given to the weapon in past rumour threads...)
