Default Tau Versus Tau Empire. A discussion on Changes.

We all know of the upcoming release of tau empire. We all know that it means big changes for the army in general.

Based on what we know so far about the codex, it seems we are being given only a few new things.

However, the tau army is very delicatly put together. At present the static tau army. The non-mobile one is inneffective with few exceptions. There are not many options when makeing a tau army list. There is by far more strategy used in the actual game than in the army list right now becasue if you make a good tau list, you also have to know how to play it without making mistakes.

Right now the tau army is not very forgiving in any aspect of there assembly (army listing) and play.
High firpower and a small amount of that power (fewer units) makes everything even more unforgiving. You must be surgically precise. The best Tau tactic is arguably the FOF. Even that formation has a limited 12 inch range and is vonerable to enemy fire becasue skimmers don't block LOS.

You might ask now, "why does he say all this?" "we already know that, or have heard something like that" And yes you have. A million times if your experienced.

What I ask you now is:

Is this true for Tau empire.

Do the tau still need ssergical precision.

Do they still need the extreme mobility? Can they be played statically.

Are they still serverly Close hand cambat defficient?

What, in the general sense of tau play, will change?

Respectfully,

Probably, other then the new marklight rules, the core of the Tau army remains the same. Sure CSs have gotten cheaper. But overall I think most lists can pretty much stay the same.

I've never seen anything wrong with a static lists, but with "Empire" the Tau have become a lot better able at pinning the enemy.

Nope, theres some new stuff to play with, but none of it I think will change the core of many Tau armies, except possibly pathfinders.

Long story short, Tau Empire added a lot of 'bling bling' stuff. Ie, equipment raising your points cost pretty much, but being rather ineffective as a cost. We have got a lot of good stuff as well, the Cyclic Ion Blaster for instance. Reduced crisis cost (bar plasma rifles), more battlesuit versatility, added variety on troops (kroot changes, FW options; devilfish options), more fast attack options...

The list goes in. I guess my point is Tau Empire is in my opinion just a revision with added options of 'Tau'. The more I think about the new stuff, the more I'm leaning towards my old list, nearly nothing new stuff. The thing is that Tau Empire did (to me at least), some main changes:

1. The real strength of the Tau is their armoured battlesuits. This became more true, as all 3 battlesuit variants received improvements/cost reduce/more variety.
2. More stuff... Generally, most things are cheaper now. This makes for more Tau than we had before for the equal amount of points.
3. Added versatility. A lot of stuff has been to the list, and we can do stuff we could never even dream of earlier.

I beleive that so called "Static" tau are receiving a boost in this codex, to the point of viability. Several new uits, such as sniper teams, and options for old units, like BASS, give the non-mounted tau more effectiveness than before.

I agree with Olannon. But Tau are geting an increase in short-range fire-power. Carbines, Vespid, Special Issue weapons, Kroot reshuffling. All help at shorter ranges. Good for me, I plau Urban Tau. Yay Cities of Death!
