Default Stealthsuits and Aun'shi

me and my friend got into a weird situation the other day. He had an Aun'shi join with a squad of stealth troops. We know that Aun'shi does not get the stealth field. What we are confused about is, if he gets shot and takes wounds, is he the only one to take wounds or can the wounds be taken on the stealth suits?

I'm pretty sure he would effectively make the stealth team lose the stealth field. You can target him, and then the majority toughness and armor rules kick in - after all, he is part of the stealth squad.

In any case, it's a terrible waste and a dumb idea. Smack your friend in the head.

That's interesting. Since Aun'shi has no stealth armor, an opponent wouldn't need a roll to see Aun'Shi, and therefore target the squad. Wounds could still be given to stealthsuits, since this is representative of models taking the bullet for another, which practically any tau would do. Majority Armor won't affect Aun'shi's Invulnerable Save, and he'll get 3+ armor save from the stealths.

Actually, if you were planning get into close combat with the stealthsuits, that's not a bad idea. Aun'shi boosted stealthsuits would be pretty nice against light armor opponents. In defense, stealthsuits stealth fields would still give them I10, and Aun'shi is pretty quick anyways.

yeah read the codex or if you are illiterate/dont have it then listen here
to see the stealth squad the opponent must roll for nightfight and if already doing so they must half that distance. if they are assualted then they count as being in cover. i believe that is the rounded up version of it

What? Aun'shi would not get a 3+ save, re-read how the majortiy armor save rule works.

On subject, I do believe that if joined by a model with out the stealth field the unit effectively looses the stealth field ability.

yeah but everyone is forgetting, aunny is a independant character. In the rules an indy cannot be targeted if there is a friendly squad within six... blah blah blah blah... he's giving up the JSJ to put him in the squad, and an opponent will have to test to shoot the squad as normal. Aun shi' is un-targetable, untill a round robin situation, where wounds would have to start allocating to him (in which case he'd have to make his 4+ invulnerable save), or untill the steath team dies, which is highly possible now, considering they won't be doing any jumping into cover.
